KeymasterMy SMEG SUK91MFX5 Cooker oven light just won’t go off when I shut the oven door. Do they have a sensor somewhere? There does not seem to be any mechanical switch on the oven doorframe to turn it off.
Any ideas?

KeymasterThere’s a microswitch on the right hand door hinge that controls that, probably goosed. Outside chance that the commutator switch could be faulty but I would find that unlikely.
There is no other way to switch it off other than removing the bulb. 😕

Thanks K
I’ll look at the switch in the door hinge and if all else fails I’ll remove the bulb…

KeymasterRe: SMEG oven light stays on
I have a Smeg Opera Smeg A1D-5, we just installed it today (with exception of the gas that is still not connected) all seems to work with the exception that the ovenlight is on constantly?
could it be some sort of ‘no-gas’ indicator, or is it a microswitch that is busted?
June 13, 2005 at 7:27 am #130499kwatt
KeymasterIt’s certainly not a “no-gas” indicator.
It could be that the links are incorrect on the install but I’ve not seen that model nor do I appear to have any info on it here. Other than that it is a fault and you’d need a service engineer. 😕

by ‘links’ do you mean the electrical wirering on the back or?
June 13, 2005 at 6:07 pm #130501kwatt
KeymasterYeah, some of them have links to set the regional voltage and if they’re not set right then the machine either won’t work or, as is more often the case, bits of it won’t work. It is well worth checking that they are correct if they’re there before calling an engineer as you may be charged for the visit if that is the fault as it’s not a failure, it’s an installation error.

the model is named CS19-5 on the rear, the box additionally has the notation: TYPE: C9V1XX
theres nothing in the manual about any links?
the model was bought about a year ago from italy, and all should be normal 230v 50hz , as mentioned it all works, with the excaption of the light :/

ok so another update, I had a few of my electric savy friends diagnose the unit.
the result was that the light was on due to a signal from a set of 3 wires running into the side of the unit.
we hotwired that set so now the light is only on while the oven is switched to a function.
our diagnose is that either: the set of wires goes to a thermostat that checks if the oven is ‘hot’ or: the wires goes to a ‘ovendoor- open’ microswitch.
in either case the unit it is connected to is either faulty, og connected wrong.

I can almost guarantee what the problem is as I’ve had two this year with exactly this problem.
The left hand hinge strikes an arm that operates a microswitch, the arm is either bent or the screws that hold the switch are loose/missing.
Please don’t change the wiring of the cooker permanently, it’s quite a simple job to repair the problem.
If you need an engineer check repairs@ or if you attempt the repair, power off of course 😀
