Pffft, in the good old days of power unit changes on Hotpoint top loaders the six large hexagon headed bolts that held the inner drum to the top of the power unit often seized completely. Impossible to drill out, the only way to proceed was to physically snap each one off with brute force. Given the limited amount of room inside the drum this had to be achieved with a normal 1/4W, or 5/16BS ring spanner.

Oh blimey Jim, use a 1/2 inch ratchet and long extension bar, much easier. On the 1504’s with the slotted screws out with the huge BDA issue screwdriver.

I used to consider it part of my daily work out, or as Charles Atlas called it, Dynamic Tension. 😀
If the young un’s could see some of the special tools we used to have, that screwdriver you mention was more like a broadsword, the huge box spanner the size of a drainpipe for the Empress post nut, the massive metal slide or the later black tubular doofer for sliding the drums out of the old English Electric Liberators. 8)
