A meeting sounds abit too formal for me. 😉?? Formal, us lot ?? A bar & good food. 2 out of those 3 go together well.
This is not a dress suit jobby. Yes it is to be taken seriously, and we all do. But we meet in the bar on the Friday night, some of us the Thursday as well, (Need to make sure I’m booked fro that) and we have good time when the barriers are down. Yes we talk a lot of shop, but it is a worthwhile break.
Give it a lot of thought and you could put some faces to names; of course we would all recognise you. I’ll get the Penguin to buy you a pint. It is just off the A5 from Tamworth, so quite accessible.
BTW am I booked one night or two? if the one, can Dave put me in for the Thursday as well.

Steady on with my money Alex – he’s from the wrong side of the Peninnes!
Seriously GB, it’s a fascinating and enjoyable couple of days, and you can write the bill off against tax 😀 .

KeymasterYeah Goatboy, have you seen the pictures?
The UKW meetings are kept pretty informal for a reason, it’s to allow as many people as possible to easily access it without having dress up for it or behave in a “particular” way. Even Penguin got a raw herring last time around. 😉
Seriously though they are well worth going to, you’ll learn a lot in two days, an awful lot. And remember we always try to upstage ourselves from the last one. Already there’s a couple of things organised for September you really don’t want to miss.

Update 😀
Alex and Chris now have Thursday and Friday night booked for them.
Martin, if you let me know which night(s) you’d like I can book for you. I only took the names from the first page of the thread and emails. PM’s etc 😉

Just as an update on the hotel situation, there are now only 3 twin and 10 double rooms left for accomodation on Thursday and Friday night.
If it gets too full there is another pub/B&B across the road which I can’t recall the name of, anyone remember ?

Right guys I`m new to this so here`s the question……………..
You all seem to talk up the ukw meeting. From what I can gather it takes place on friday night ( am I right?)For me to attend this meeting I would have an 800mile round trip. I would have to leave Friday morning, arriving 7 hours later, say 3pm, stay overnight in a hotel then drive back Saturday. Due to staff on holiday I would also have to close down for a day.
Do you think it`s worth it?
Or should I start a poll? 😕

KeymasterI’ll leave it to others to answer that fully, but I’d have to say yes, it is. This one more than any before, but that’s usually the case as we like to have the odd little surprise at the meetings, this one will likely be a blinder. 😉
However, the meeting actually starts on the Friday morning and runs through to the Saturday lunchtime although there’s quite a few of us there on the Thursday night as usual.
I do an almost 900 mile round trip, as do others and they all seem to think it’s worth it. Even if I wasn’t having to be there I still would, loads goes on and you get to meet some really nice people as well as make good business contacts, so yeah, it’s worth it.

deffo worth the trip Bazza, but not the way you planned it. I would recommend arriving Thursday to anyone 150+ miles away, as the meeting usually starts 10 ish. Hey, give yourself a break, maybe if just for that reason its worth it.

I suspect that you’re where I was when I joined UKW, Bazza. Got interested, started posting regularly, got involved and realised that firstly I shared the same interests, ideals and problems with a lot of others, secondly that we could make a difference if we keep on and on and on working at it and finally that putting faces to the various names that pop up on the site would help to consolidate friendships that were developing on-line.
I went to UKW3, which was interesting but (IMO) a bit weak in substance, UKW4 was a cracker, lots of ideas and work starting to come to fruition, Christmas dinner was just that – a really good social evening leading to some serious chat (and some serious partying).
5 will see lots of work coming together and being put into place for all of our benefits. As a sole trader Friday and Saturday are two good working days for me (I’ll probably work Sunday to catch up), but what we are beginning to achieve makes it worth while.
The catchphrase is “It’s your industry – be a part of it”. The meetings are the best hands-on opportunity you can get, so try and get there.
Besides, we all want to see the brawire I was so cruelly robbed of. Make sure its got a Tracker if Kev gets his hands on it. 😀
Cheers,
