Is the Hamster having a rest today, I am getting lots of general error messages after posting, and no e-mail notifications.

Well something is borked, I have had no e-mail notifications since lunch time. Also spotted Martin’s post.
I have even had a punter e mailing me direct because he says he cannot register. 😥

KeymasterThere appears to have been an issue but it seems resolved. 😕
I will investigate further and see what I can find.
Why does this always happen when you’re busiest?

Well… if you’re sitting comfortably… let me begin…
Turns out that flipping all this over to another system isn’t just as simple as I had anticipated and, two developers later…
Trevor is on the case.
The only trouble with that is that Trevor can only work at it part time and so can I. Getting us both at the same time available to work away at it isn’t so easy. 😕
The bare bones of it is up, the initial bits are done, I just need Trevor to throw over a load of data then call a halt to any new articles on UKW.
Then get all that organised and sorted, over 400 articles at the start.
Then get the forums imported over as a test.
Then shut down UKW for a while whilst all the live data is transferred.
Then get it all back up and make sure it all works.
Nothing is ever as easy as it first appears.
And yes, I’m as p1$$ed off at the delay as everyone else is. Probably much more so.

Not really p**d off, the forum does run quite smoothly 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time these days. I was just wondering that all. 8)

And, normal service is resumed, we’re back on track… almost. 😉
I hope to have, next month, a full time body working on this. It just made more sense to employ than to pay countless thousands to some third party to do it in the end.
And, we’ve teamed up with a local university as, apparently (shocker), what I want to do is pretty radical and hasn’t been done before. They’re awfully interested in it all.
Revamp is planned to be completed before the start of the summer.
After that the interesting stuff actually starts.

Does that mean an end to the ‘flood filter’ I do find that really annoying even though I understand why it is in place. 😉

KeymasterIt means a lot of changes. 😉

On the first pass the site will change, substantially. The forums will be completely renewed from the ground up, the flood filter will be far less severe than it is currently and it drives me daft at times as well Don, probably more than most people.
After that we start on some really funky stuff like data mining and a whole loada other funky features, I hope many of which will actually let the guys work better, smarter and make money from as it all revolves around servicing. There’s a lot of spin off into other more traditional areas.
If I can pull it all off of course. It’s all technically possible to do, I’m just hampered by the number of hours in the day and resource available to throw at it.
