And it looks like we’re back on track.
I should, I hope, have news on this in the next month or so as I am sick to death of deleting spammers and answering questions about the search function.
However, that’s the least of my concerns and I hope to have it resolved and the site upgraded to a more modern platform within the next few months, certainly before the end of June if it is at all possible.
Please bear with me, I’m as sick of some of the limitations (probably much more so) as anyone else is. However, because of my longer term strategy I had to go about things a slightly different way to get what I wanted.
This does mean that, over the coming months, my time will be extremely limited due to various projects coming to fruition. The good news on that front is that it should help a lot of the guys a fair old bit. 😉
And yes, I know I’m being frightfully cryptic again.

And, some months later….
Work begins on the 24th of this month. Finally!!!
You really don’t want to know the technical details about databases and object orientated design platforms etc., it’s brain numbing! :rolls:
However, if all goes to plan it’s just so, so cool it’d be in the sub-zero fridge on TG! 😆
A number of things will change. Well, truth be told, it’ll be everything that changes beyond the actual content on the site. So far as I’m concerned the whole of it needs brought into the current century and, that requires massive change.
On another note, Li is hoping to get the pukka server back online very soon which should mean we get all the word filters back. That should, hopefully, stop a lot of the stupid spam posts as many of the words they use are banned so they’ll just get the forbidden message.
With this and the whole Amica thing going off along with the OFT et all, you’ll maybe understand why, if you see me Friday, that my eyes look like p1ss holes in the snow. I just hope it’s all worth it.

And, some months later again…
Complete UKW migrated to a new platform ready for local development.
The scripts to get it all over to another platform were a bit more of a challenge than first anticipated.
Oh and the OFT thing went on. And on.
The Amica thing sorta took up more time than anyone thought.
As well as one or two other things happening along the ways. :rolls:
Working on it all next week, please leave me alone to get on with it as it’s a shedload of work and, even at that, I’ll probably need some help once it all goes live.
There will be downtime, hopefully not too much, when we flick the switch onto the new platform. I’m hoping to make the change in the next few weeks but you guys will have loads of notice of it happening.

Work is now well under way.
A lot of the catogorisation I’ve done although probably not perfectly as there’s a hell of a lot of content, far more then I’d imagined. And, I’ve not touched the news articles yet!!!
The plan is…
Get it all working here, locally. I’ve been knocking my pan in for days on that.
Get it then up online into a “development” area to let us all get a crack at sorting some of the content out as, if I have to do it all myself it will take forever.
Migrate the forums stuff.
Test.
Test more.
Go live.
I HOPE to have it done by month end but can’t guarantee it.

Looks really good 😀
Great idea on the TM 😉
All the navigation areas in one tidy place especially the search button, although I some will still not be able to see it :rolls:
Is that the whole of the homepage or is there more content to add?
Whenever it’s ready to roll out I am happy to add my services.
Jim will get to use it before he retires as well 😆

Ta.
UKW has been TM’d for a few years now, I just never bothered to make a thing of it.
That’s just a snapshot of the top half-ish of the front page, there’s a LOT more to come and to add.
The new menu system lets me put a hell of a lot more content in a much smaller space and make it easier to find! Hence the big “Search” button for those that can be bothered to look.
The new forums… much, much, much, much better searching. As well as a lot more control for mods etc. on what can and can’t be done.
Hope to have it online this week for initial stuff needing doing.
