ParticipantHi guys,
I have a Zanussi wd1252w which had a condensing problem on the dryer but was fixed by a replacement solenoid. Now it will not heat on wash or dry cycle. All elements are sound on resistance test.
The temperature probe that sits in the drum duct has suspect wiring. The actual probe has a resistance of about 4.5 kOhms. The wiring connector is suspect. One of the wires had fallen out. The connector doesn’t seem serviceable so I just kinda shoved the wire back in and superglued it!
Question is, if the temperature probe isn’t working will the elements just not activate? Also any suggestions for a strategy for repair?
Thanks kindly in advance.M

Moderatorthat model may be wrong
can you post the pnc numberalso you say it does not heat on wash or dry but each system uses separate heaters and stats and are not related so it would be very rare indeed if both stopped

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for the reply.
Pnc is 91460320700.
Resistance across stat is about 1 ohm. I also pressed the red reset button for what it’s worth.
Do you think It’s a good idea to replace the temperature probe connector, think it’s suspect, for the probe in the duct in lower drum? Thanks

ParticipantActually maybe the wash cycle is heating up, I just couldn’t feel the heat and the laundry wasn’t warm but was clean. Any easy way to know?
The dryer definitely isn’t heating up.
Thank you

Moderatorput it on a boil wash. you will know then
will do the machine good as it will kill the mould and bacteriaModel has a z at the beginning
its a ZWD1252w that’s why I could not find itits a 2006 machine. in the lower hose there is an NTC and its not uncommon for the wires to break

ParticipantYes Z for Zanussi!
I put it on a boil wash for a few mins, couldn’t feel any heat. Probably try again.
Would a open circuit wiring loom on the NTC module prevent the dryer elements from heating up do you think?
Thanks again

Mattyes open circuit would stop the heat

ParticipantThanks Dave. I’m going to try and get some new connectors today.

ParticipantHiya,
I replaced the two perished NFC connectors on the lower hose now the dryer fan is heating. However my two original problems, no heat on was and no moisture evaporation on dry mode are still persisting.
I replaced the inlet solenoid as the one for evaporation had no resistance reading. Also the heating element in the drum has a resistance of 30 ohms and the temp sensor 3400 ohms, so I’m assuming they are within tolerance?!
Now I’m thinking board problem, maybe? So wondering whether I might as well give up and invest in a new one or call out an engineer, nay thoughts??
Thanks as always.

Moderatordoes the valve open at any time ?
some machine don’t open this valve till its necessary to save water so have you tried it with wet washing in. and its very low flow so its hard to see
have you checked the condenser is clear as these often get cloggedDave

ParticipantIt’s a brand new three way solenoid so I assume it’s working OK and opening. There’s a little square plastic housing connected to the condenser pipe and you can take the top off and it’s half full of water. I cannot see any blockages in the condenser pipe as it’s semi transparent.
I’ll have another look and put some photos up if I can.
I just did a load of wet cold washing and it came out steaming wet and hot after drying. Don’t get why the water’s not heating or the condenser working. Maybe there is a blockage.
I’m going to put a 90 Celsius wash on and see if I can detect heat.
Thanks for replying anyway Dave, you’re a gent.

ParticipantCan’t detect any voltage at the heater terminals while it’s on the boil wash. Multimeter on 20v setting.
I’ll be able to tell if it heats as the condenser tank is half full on the side of the unit.

ParticipantCan’t upload photos as it says my user group only has 19.5kb left! Sure you get the picture though!
Cheers

ParticipantUpdate, water is heating up in the drum. I can feel the heat through the plastic and there’s some fluctuating voltage at heater terminals, it may not have been activated when I tested earlier.
So now it’s just an issue of the condenser not absorbing the moisture.

Moderatorcheck condenser for blockages
as long as the condenser is clear and the water is flowing it should dry. Also check the fan sometimes the blades get clogged with lint and lower air flowDave
