ParticipantI have no water coming out of the dispensor and have tried the following
the water tank has been heated with a hair drier as this was frozen up.
the fan inside the evaporator cover had failed this has been replaced.
thr appears to be a sill which was also frozen up> Does this indicate some sort of heater failure. the electric connectors were also frozen up.
At present fridge is working fine but will the icing up reoccur?
anyway back to dispenser problem I thought tat the valve at the back may have failed this has been replaced but has not solved the problem. There is water fom the main feed to the valve but that is all.
When lever at the front is pressed there is no pressure and no noise of any ware trying to get through.
Is there a switch at the front which has failed if so how do you get at it?
Many questions to answer but help is needed as I am running out of ideas and patience!!!January 15, 2008 at 8:02 am #239583Dales-Electronic

Take a piece of advice – stop throwing parts at it. The water flow comes from the valve at the back through the chiller water tank and then on to the dispenser. If the water tank is frozen up then no water to dispenser, this is usually caused by the evaporator cover being frozen. If the cover is frozen up then the fan will not be going around and replacement of the fan will not rectify the fault only cause a delay until it freezes again. You need to replace the evaporator cover (which comes with the fan), check the thermal fuse and two heaters and probably change the defrost sensor. I doubt that the water valve will be faulty.

is there a solenoid switch inside the front of the water despenser?
The water tanhk is not frozen upThere is water gwtting to the valve/pump at the rear.
however when despence lever is pressed in there still is no water.
You used to hear the water flowing when lever pressed in but there is no sound on water at all.
please helpJanuary 25, 2008 at 8:10 am #239585Dales-Electronic

If you take the kick strip off at the bottom you will see where the water dispenser water pipe is connected and flows up inside the door. Seperate this pipe at the connector and place an old towel at this joint. Then slowly press the water dispenser lever. If water comes out at the towel then everything is ok up to this point, if however there is no gush of water, then you have a problem with the water dispenser lever behind the display panel. There is no solenoid behind the lever only a microswitch.

please helpwater tank isnt frozen up?? can u see inside the tank?
listen, if u wanna be sure, take the pipe off the other side of the valve and activate the water valve, see if it comes out then, if it does, the tanks got ice in it
your looking for a fault that probably isnt thereJanuary 25, 2008 at 11:43 am #239587helo_75
ParticipantAND of course, u gotta ask the question.. is it making ice?
think about it, its the same valve assyJanuary 25, 2008 at 6:10 pm #239588egonvdv

I have a sim problem with my samsung side by side.
(rs56 xdjns, but think this is a specific french reference)came back after 2 weeks holiday & no water came out.
ice was functioning normal.checked on the internet & followed advice to heat watertank with dryer.
the watertank is apparently in the fridge door…?
anyway, this didn’t solve the problemthen disconnected the watertube on the front, below the door.
no water came out, not even when pushing the dispenser.disconnected the the watertube at the back of the fridge.
now, when pushing the dispenser, water came out of the valve.so somewhere between the “front & back” watertube something
was blocking the waterflow. this gave me the idea that the waterreservoir is not in the door, but somewhere under the fridge….?anyway, i tried blowing into the tube(s) from both sides. nothing.
then i (carefully) pushed a electrical wire into the tube, but was unable
to push it all the way through to the other side.
(giving me the idea that the reservoir might be blocking it…)
but this also did nothing.however after a few minutes water started to magically come out of the tube in the back. i blew into the tube and air was coming out of the front
of the fridge, so no more blockage. (ice melted???)i connected everything again (making sure there were no leaks!)
and the water dispenser was working again.BUT…. now the dispenser is leaking a tiny little bit.
we’re talking 1 drop per 5 minutes or so…
i’ve flushed the system with about 3 liters of water, but doesn’t make a differenceso 1st of all i have no idea what the original problem was.
2nd i’d like to know where the water reservoir really is.
and 3rd, how do i stop the dripping?please to hear

Participantlike has been said, u need an evaporator cover …. the water tank is under the evaporator at the back of the fridge
thats why its freezing.. possibly a sensor/element problem
dunno how many times we have to advise these items be replaced , its an easy and inexpensive repair (apart from the evaporator cover)
if its dripping, youll need to change the tank, it comes complete with the hoses
i really hope this helps

Participantthanks yr reply.
fridge is only 1.5 years old and already
i have to change parts….so if i understand correctly these fridges to not come standard with this cover?
and the evaporator.. is that on the bottom next to the fan? (sorry, i’m not that technical.)
how do i get to the water tank? should i put the fridge on it’s side, or take off the back cover?

like i said, i’m not that technical 🙂
problem is that i don’t know how to get to the parts in the back.
only the fan & valve on the bottom are easily accesable…February 6, 2008 at 7:03 pm #239595egonvdv
ParticipantRe: water dispensor really stuck ETC (SAMSUNG RS21 dgrs MODE
well solved dripping water: just need to firmly connect the tube in the front, under the door.
but 2 days later: again no water.
called samsung and they’ll send someone in a few days.
however i’m afraid he’ll just defrost the fridge and nothing more.
(on the phone they said it was NOT a usual problem…)what should i tell the guy? and what parts should be changed for upgraded ones?
help will be appreciated

Well my fridge has been repaired.
And I now understand what some people have tried to explain here above.anyway, for all the people (like me) that are not that technical, let me go through it in simple wording 🙂
1st:
Here in France Samsung DOES recognise that there’s a problem with their fridges,
and will replace the part for free with an upgraded one.I can only speak for my fridge: meaning the type that has the watertank
in the back bottom of the fridge (and NOT in the door of the freezer)this is my fridge:

here’s the watertank:

THIS is the part that needs to be replaced:
the fridge without the part:
this is the other side of the (new) part.
the only difference with the old part is a small metal strip which
goes through the hole (i marked in red), preventing the hole from
being blocked with ice:
these are the instructions from samsung that came with the new part.
it describes several potential problems that will be fixed
by changing the part.
it also has reference numbers of the fridges concerned:

I hope this clarifies it for people not so fridge-smart 🙂
And again; this IS a known problem, so don’t take no for an answer
with regards
