ParticipantGoing to look at this machine tommorow.
apparaently its the bearings, never done one of these yet!
would you just change the bearings or would you change the whole back half drum? as theres not a great deal of difference in the price tbh.
also would you reccomend i change the tub gasket too?
thx.

If you’ve done any WMA’s you’ll be fine. Especially when it comes to running the wiring loom, much easier to get it nice and tidy.
Your call on just bearings or backhalf. Do watch out if its 30mm or 35mm bearings as this will restrict you if you are wanting to change the backhalf.
(Can’t get 30mm backhalfs. Use a 35mm backhalf and change the spider.)
Are you taking it away to repair?

There is a 30 mm bearing kit available.

To be honest yes! it will be the famous uplift LOL.
Thing is i have a baumatic awaiting a element and a wash pump. A bosch d/w waiting on a element, and a bosch dishwasher leaking from the sump seal .
All of which i have taken away for various reasons, element for bosch= tub off and customer wants me to do tuesday instead of tommorow, so im uplifting that tommorow , gives me few days to do ( if its hot fri, sat, sunday it can wait ) soon as the weathers crap i will do some work.
Bosch seal is uplifted because i want to give it a damn good test afterwoods ( if it turns out its the seal at fault upon stripping it down ).Various reasons really….all to my benefit.
aeg element to d/w tommorow afternoon and that wf630 to look at in the afternoon.Tbh i call this BUSY with whats its been like lately.
The local rag had a sick week off ( my advert manager ) and my advert was due so it has been out the paper for a week, i know reputation helps but 9 months is all ive been in this town so thats to build on.Anyway i think thats enough babbling on ive had a few beers.

good idea that about the sus pins iadom, will add it to the quote. 😉
so to determine the bearing sizes im gonna have to measure or do it by its number imprinted?
done a lot of zanussi’s with split tubs but dare to say hardly any hotpoint with split tubs, 2 or so a few years ago.

Some useful hints HERE
There is a very strong possibility it will have the 30mm bearings. The 35mm bearings and seals are far more reliable than they used to be before the introduction of the Rubena seal but the 30mm ones are rubbish.
Like all bearing jobs it just depends how long it has been left so best to strip it down first and ‘suck it and see’, if you don’t carry or stock a 35mm rear half & drum support. I do due to still doing a fair number of these.
I have changed the 30mm bearings on their own but feel much happier changing the drum rear half & support if the customer will accept the cost of course. 😉

so basically change it for the 35mm ( complete drum rear and seal ) and the spider, both pins.
do the rear half and drum support come as a kit for this then? and the seal or seperate items?
Thx.

It really depends on how much the customer is willing to spend. The rear half & drum support are separate items and by the time you have added sundries and labour you will be into serious expense.
If the drum shaft is in good condition and you can get the bearings out then it would be a great deal cheaper but not as likely to last.
Given that this machine has full Indesit electronics they may fail before the new 30mm bearings. 😉
35mm rear drum is a 1603409, list price over £80 ex vat. Drum support 1604290, list £33.00 ex vat. Available at a good bit less than that from most suppliers but the prices have crept up lately. 😥
Seal..1603293..pegs 1603347 (2)

I don’t think we need to worry about trying to improve these machines by uprating the bearings. If the repair lasts as long as the original bearings the customer can’t really complain. With regard to the shaft condition you should bear in mind that the seal does not run directly on the shaft so if its surface is roughened it won’t rip up the seal surface. The seal is in 2 parts, the inner part is an interference fit on the shaft, the outer part is an interference fit in the bearing housing.

😳 Forgot them but I do have a huge bag of them donated by a retiring Hotpoint engineer two years ago, enough to last me out hopefully. 🙂

ParticipantRe: WF630
The spider bolts usually have to be drilled out as they rust in. Therefore don’t expect to be able to re-use them. All in all, much easier to just fit a new 30mm bearing kit 😉

Torx head bolts that fit the spider to the drum. 😉
