ParticipantHi All
This isn’t advice I need really it’s just a bit of a quiz …My Mum has just had the first bit of trouble ever with her Washing machine and I mean ‘ever’ as far as we can remember it has never had it’s back off.
It’s just started to leak from underneath and I went over today and broke the little plastic handle on the door , because being a numpty, I pulled when I should’ve pushed 😳 (story of my life)
I remember this machine from my more youthful days, before marriage etc came along she originally bought the matching dryer to go with it but when she moved house there was no room for the dryer so they parted company and it’s now still with Aunty (this machine is also still working well). Can anybody tell me just as a matter of interest what year this machine would’ve been made? Mum reckons she bought it when I was at secondary school so it could have been anytime between 1971 – 1976 ……. now don’t go working out how old I am 😆 it’ not me whos’s leaking …much.
Is there perhaps a year of manufacture plate on it somewhere?
Anyway the other thing is she is buying a new machine now, as she feels she’s had her money’s worth out of it
Also if anyone could use this machine for spares that’s assuming it isn’t the last remaining one ever on the planet then it’s up for grabs providing I don’t have to deliver 😉
So what is this Time Machine ???? …it’s a Hotpoint 95492
What’s the Year ? ….Please anyone 😕
Sorry if I’ve posted this in the wrong section so if any site officials want to move it to where it belongs feel free.

If you give us the serial number from inside the door I can date it to exact month of production.
It still has while to go yet though, my oldest Hotpoint front loader is at a customers locally. Hotpoint 1851, over 28 years old and still going strong.
Commonest cause of leak would be the door seal. Have a good look inside the folds for any tiny holes.
Jim.
PS. You can still get the door handle for that machine. 😉

Thanks for that ..not as old as she thought …maybe I’m not either 😆 I’ll get the serial number off the door tomorrow when I go over, then we are off to find a nice easy to use (like the old one)… Dials Only no LCD Screen with whistles and bells coz this will confuse her no end for hopefully under £200 …. 😯

oh, no no no, dont ever go under £200, really you will have no end of problems & be lucky if it lasts 2 years, have you looked at the ISE2 or ISE5 machines?, here on this site, good little machines with a full 2 year garantee,
again, please dont go buying a £200 box or you’ll be spending all your spare time on here trying to fix it 😥July 4, 2008 at 8:17 pm #256954helo_75
Participantwell, theres a nice looking machine in comet, bargain price, fast spin, silver under £200

Participantthe last post was a joke , by the way… hotpnt is spot on
if you must try and save, get a zanussi or a bosch, dont buy hotpoint on the grace of your old machine, you’ll only be dissapointed!!

There is s resume of the ISE2 in http://www.iseappliances.co.uk . Nice little machines, we sell lots of them. It is not available through the shop@ facility, only from your local ISE agent – there is a dealer locator on the site.

She is finally getting rid of a machine that is over 20 years old, ask her if she still has the receipt, at a guess it would have cost her around £250 to £275 and you want to spend under £200 over 20 years later. :rolls:
As one of the more venerable members of the forum I will quote an old adage which is more relevant today that it has ever been, “Buy cheap, buy twice”. 😉
If you download THIS brochure it will give you details of the ISE 2 machine then as P45 says you can contact a local dealer for up to date prices.

You will get what you pay for….. Add inflation and that machine would now cost over £400, at £275; nearly £500.
Think about it!

KeymasterTry more in the region of £800-1200 Chris, that’d be more on the money (excuse the pun) and realistic I’d expect.

If she has got 20 odd years out of the original set of brushes that must be some kind of record. I would suggest she just gets it overhauled (new brushes, belt, door seal, possibly new bearings and sticks with a loyal workhorse. Some friends of mine run a similar old Hotpoint but it gets a lot more use and has had a lot more repairs, including patches to the cracked base where the suspension units bolt on.

Hi Jim, Serial No for the Old Hotpoint ia 01.589092 …
….£800 – £1200 😯 ha ha ..My Mums 80, the last thing on her mind is a Washin Machine outlasting her and if I gotta spend most of my time on here sendin posts just think it’s good for your site 😆
I should think in a few years we’ll be doing her washing for her 🙂 … 😆
Another Hotpoint she wanted and got £249, she’s chuffed with it just dials No LCDs and she can’t get over how quiet it is, this one doesn’t sound like a low flying Lancaster when it’s spinning … 😆 😆 😆
Cheers for the info peeps 🙂
