A new topic. A play on words from another popular topic.
In this case these can generally mean more money for us and losses for Landlords. Or just messing us about.I’ll start.
Call from letting agent: Can you dispose of broken dishwasher that the outgoing tenants have just put back in to property. Supply and fit a new one.
Tenants had reported that the plug had melted and the DW didn’t work. To cut a long story short, the plug had stuck to the black coating at the back of the DW and obviously uplugged itself. Tenants had pulled it out, thought it was knacked and chucked it in the garage until they left. They lost the fitting brackets and knackered the rear leg raiser system. The Landlord was ready to fork out £500-£600 for a new DW.
Nothing that some correctly sized wood and new fitting brackets can’t sort out. Clean and check the plug and a bit of foil to stop it happening again and up and running. Just waiting for brackets tomorrow and then – One happy Landlord and I’m getting a good wage for it 😀

………..allow their electricity ‘pay as you go’ meter to run out of credit mid-way through fixing washing machine. Power goes off whilst tenant is at work!

I had that one simlar last August. Two days in a row no money in the meter – reported fault: Fridge Freezer too warm. :rolls:
It was actually knacked but it took 3 days to find out.That would be even more annoying – running out half way through the repair.
Anyone got 50p for the meter??? Ooops showing my age

Age??? When I wur a lad we had a meter for the gas and the question was “has anyone got a bob for the meter”?
NB: A ‘bob’ was one shilling or 10p in today’s savagely devalued currency. 🙁 No 50p’s then, only the red ten bob note. 🙂

You may remember there were 12 old pence in a shilling, 20 shillings in a pound, so 240 old pence in the pound. There are 100 new pence in the pound, so one shilling is actually worth only 5 new pence. No, I’m not old enough to remember decimalisation, but old enough to remember 1 and 2 shilling coins still in circulation and used as 5p and 10p coins.

You are correct, it’s a size thing, the first 10p decimal coins were about the same size as the old shilling.
So you don’t remember florins, threepenny bits, farthings, half crowns? All still legal tender in my youth. :eeek:

Threepenny bits, yes, quite a distinctive shape I seem to remember, but maybe just lying around in an old drawer, if not in the old Hoover Keymatic drain pump!

Letting agent asks me to go fix a dishwasher, job sorted. Tenant asks if I could also fix dryer, job sorted. Billed agent then landlord states that the dryer is tenants own machine and won’t shell out the £40 charge. Meanwhile tenant moves out of the area….with her bl00dy dryer…!!

Letting agent job. Fix cooker door hinges inner and outer and fit new door seal. Easy job. Visit, order parts. Fit job in. Under thier budget ceiling. Everyone happy !!
Just as I’m putting the door seal on. Oh this hot plate trips the fusebox all the time can you have a look at it? It’s been like this for months. Sure enough, without turning it on, from hob eyelevel height I could see that the hob plate was very slightly convex.
Arrggh why didn’t you tell me when I first visited or even tell the agents when you reported the oven door?
LL decides to replace the cooker. altogether.
So I get another job – disconnect old and fit new cooker. I get paid twice, still charge for the parts and labour for the original job. 😀 😀
I’m not sure who is the fool here. The tenants or LL because the job went slightly over their own set budget limit and then to buy a new cooker – to quote them “just in case another hob ring fails we’ll replace it.” I’ll take the money 😀 😀
PS How do you balance a pan of boiling water on a convex hob plate??? How did they not notice it??

LandLords/LandLadys.I went to do a Smeg 600mm range inner door glass that had smashed.
Got there to find that the tenant had already fitted one (which had subsequently broken) using half a tube of silicon seal because the glass wasn’t tight when he fitted it.Took hours to clean up and fit, only to go back for the same thing a month later because the ‘pot smoking’ dip**** dropped something on it.

Another rant about tenants although the real fault lies with the letting agents for being too soft.
I only work Saturdays occasionally. An agency I work for (normally excellent customers), ringing and ringing and emailing for an hour Saturday morning.
I relented and answered just to get them to stop.
I had to go out please!! It was an urgent job, it needed doing now!!!! I offered but at 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} extra fee. I knew in advance it was a bitch of a job to get this machine out.
I eventually give in. Change my arrangements, load my van go to the job.
A young woman, about six items stuck in a washing machine. (debris in pump..old Hotpoint no filter..)
The urgency… Not kids school clothes or bedding. No, “I need my white bra to go out tonight”… 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡
The wife has banned me from talking about it and I’m a grumpy old man apparently 😉

It never fails to amaze me how desperate people get.
The letting agents are getting worse too, as long as the tenant is off their back they don’t care how it may affect the next person down the line.
People need to get some real problems.
But if they do don’t tell me about them when I’m at their house.
