Why would you need to recalibrate a Miele washing machine after repairing it with a laptop? Sounds like a scam to me. Is this not just something Miele engineers tell customers to impress?

The Miele machines are software updatable, to add new features or programmes for new detergents and the likes.

Perhaps this is what was implied?

Yes that’s my current assumption. I’m wondering if anyone knows different. I suspect that some Miele engineers could be implying that the washing machine must be recalibrated after repair, which helps keep customers reliant on Miele (or some customers are making that assumption), but the truth is just that they can be recalibrated and that it isn’t necessary at all in the vast majority of cases.

I had one the other day Andy, the pressure chamber was blocked as they have a habit of doing, but once cleaned the fill level was insufficient. I mean barely touching the inner drum. These are the models with the tiny pressure ‘switch’ on the pcb itself. Turns out that after prolonged use with the blocked air bell, the pcb reverts to a default emergency mode and once the pressure chamber fault was corrected, it continues in this emergency mode and reclibration OR a new module (£150 odd exchange! if the heater gone as well then they are in for a £300 odd repair bill) is the only cure. So now, it is extremely difficult to quote for jobs not knowing if this will happen or not. Having said that, I must have cleaned out hundreds of these without problem so lets hope its a rare occurance.
Anyone with this software and the sucker connector wants to pm me to take a look/ have a copy I would be most gratefull.

I have the software & optical interface to allow me to see & change the parameters set for a Miele machine.
Its a very good system i can see things what speed the motor is set to spin at & what the actual speed it runs at is, i can see the temp’ setpoint & that the temperature is actually rising & that the relay opens, i can see the state of switches etc. You can save or printout all this info on the laptop & even send it to Miele engineers if they request to see a particular problem. All machines are updateable, normal things i would be asked to do is programe in an extra rinse or a higher level of water.
My laptop has been actually giving me problems & its away getting software put on it at the minute. 👿

I’d reckon that they are not the same, but i’m not certain about that, my optical interface has a Miele part no on it (6144892) & is manufactured by Miele as far as i’m aware.

Software doesn’t happen to cover industrial dishwashers too, Seamy? And where’d you trip over the interface?

it makes me wonder why people on this site keep recommending customers to buy miele or bosch when both manufacturers try to stop independant engineers from fixing them.
what ever happened to buy british we are so quick to criticise british product and praise foreign makes.
whats wrong with a perfectly good machine made in merthyr tydfil sorry about the spelling its not foreign its welsh ie. hoover.

Could’nt agree more with suedehead1. For the twelve years i have been in this trade i have only sold Hoover machines. (ISE as well now). I rate Hoover and find their machines reliable and the cost / availability of spares is good.
