ParticipantHi,
I have a Whirlpool AWE6517 washing machine. Today near the end of a wash cycle the pump and service lights were lit up red. I removed the filter, cleaned it and replaced it and managed to get the washing out of the machine (I think it had stopped pretty close to the very end of the cycle).
The machine won’t start a cycle now without the red service light coming on and the machine stopping.
I just ran the diagnostic mode and get the below lights:
All lights are solid aside from the Start light which is flashing. The machine doesn’t seem to start any of the diagnostic cycle steps (doesn’t fill with water, spin etc).
Please could somebody advise what the issue is or what further investigative steps I should carry out?
Thanks, Richard

Thanks Dave
Just found the error code page here:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/faul … ault-codes
And it looks like code F24 (water overflow detected) instead. Is your source different?

my source is from the service manual of your model machine
so chances are its more accurate
to double check I will need the 12NC number off the label on the machine as there are about 12 machines with the same model no

Hi again,
So a replacement pressure switch arrived this morning. I’ve replaced it and I’m still getting the same error. I’ve checked the hose and it’s free of kinks.
When I manually put water into the drum and started the drain cycle the pump removed the water, so the pump appears to be fine.
What should I try next?
Thanks, Richard

check the hose from the pressure switch is not blocked or has rubbed through so its go a hole. check pressure chamber at the bottom of the machine ( where pressure hose goes to) make sure its not full of gunk
check wires from pressure sw to timer and check timer plug . pull plug of and on to make sure contact are clean
check heater is ok and got not faults to earth

Thanks Dave,
I’ve removed the hose and I can blow through it ok, there are no blockages – and no holes (I can’t blow any air through if I put my finger over the other end). I’ve removed the pressure chamber, washed it out, replaced it, made sure that water is leaving the drum to the hole the pressure chamber slots into. All seems fine.
I’ve removed the wires and replaced and I’m still getting the same error.
I checked the heating element. It’s given a resistance of 28ohms (it’s a 2040W 240V heater) which seems right. I ran the machine with the heater unplugged and it gave the error consistent with heater open circuit.
After doing the above I’m still getting the same error as initially.
What’s left to try?

its saying to check F08 /F12 problems too so here they are
also check the insulation resistance of the heater to earth as this can cause problem for electronic sensor circuits

Hi Dave
I just ran another continuity test on the terminals of the heater element and it’s no longer showing a continuous circuit. So, it looks like that may be it after all, not sure why it gave a different result earlier, perhaps it was just very close to failing?

if that’s the case then why does it not give a heater open circuit fault code like it did before
double check your meter is working
The F23 fault codec may be the result of an earth fault on the heater
heater part no 481225928823 or C00311143Dave

I do now have that error, as it happens:
I checked and I actually replaced this just under a year ago – when somehow the element had warped so much it was stopping the drum from turning. Getting the warped element out of the small hole in the drum was a very frustrating job.
Anyway, I’ve ordered a replacement. Fingers crossed this is the solution!
