A customer dumped a WMA in my shop for scrapping. Bearings are knacked as usual.

    ‘That’ll make a nice re-con’ I thinks. 🙂

When I was moving it, it made a very loud thumping noise, like, say a motor boucing around inside the cabinet; so I has a look. Sure enough, the motor has snapped off the tub!

The bearings haven’t collapsed, they’re just rumbling. The motor hasn’t snapped the plastic tub; the two metal, threaded lugs on the front of the motor have snapped off!

The machine is old enough to of had bearings in there already. Maybe someone over-tightened the motor.

I think I can ‘Heath Robinson’ the motor back on, I just wondered if anyone had seen this before, coz I aint.

    Or :lesson:
… more likely someone replaced the belt recently with an undersized none S-T-R-E-T-C-H belt???????????????

The belt is a genuine elastic one!

    1153 J5 EL – 1613202001

The belt is completely goosed too! Not snapped, but cracked beyond reconition, and groves missing.

We need Chief Inspector Taggart for this one. This machine was abused before it died!

    Wrong belt….it should be 1613202002, size 1158 5PJE

    Good call, Martin.

    Nice one Martin. 😀

Can I call you Taggart from now on?

5mm difference and it snapped the motor, wow! I wonder if a Hotpoint engineer did that.

Naaa, no hotpoint engineer would do that, we all carry wma belts as van stock, anyway, the only time we change belts on wma’s is when we replace bearings (long and often), we use the rear tank kit which includes belt, heater and suspension pegs.

OK. It must of been a cowboy. “Oh, this one is only 5mm smaller….” 🙄

    Re: Wierd WMA

Curiouser & curiouser…I went to a WMA this morning to fit a new belt (under 3 minutes using the bag tie method 🙂 ).

The new, genuine hotpoint belt, #1603287, size 1158 5PJE, code 1613202002.

The faulty belt which I am certain is the original, size 1153 J5EL, code 16132002001.

The old belt had slipped off and when I compared it with the new belt it was a fair bit longer, no doubt due to stretching, but it would appear from this that the belt on Goatboy’s WMA was genuine.

Kev put a post up about stretch belts ages ago – different stretch rates from different manufacturers giving different tension IIRC. That might account for it.

Got a part number for that Jimbo? We end up re using heaters and can be a bit of a pain.

According ot my usual supplier, who I have no reason to suspect is telling porkies, he has just been given that information on the phone by Hotpoint/Merloni. Have you actually managed to order one of these. ?

I have tried to find that part on several different WMA’s in partfinder and up to now all come up ‘part not found’

    Re: Wierd WMA

I’ve never actually ordered one but it allows me to add it so in theory it would be despatched.

No picture of it though, as you say it’s not associated with any models. Hit the “direct order” button then add it 😉

    Dave.
