Look what I’ve found, a video of how Miele make their machines. Proves what we’ve said all along.

Thanks for the link Adam, I found that to be quite interesting. Maybe someone should send that to the Merphoney group & give them a lecture on quality. :bang:

And theres more where that came from, I found out where they all came from- Buyers & Sellers. How nice of them to show Miele’s quality, and no trace of the Merphoney group on the website.

Does anyone know Merphoney’s address?

Now my forgive my ignorance here guys, (and before anyone starts with I am simply :stir: it or anything like that, I AM NOT! I am genuinely interested from a Consumer Perspective) why have you asked the likes of Beko & Antonio Merloni to manufacture your ISE products, given some of the problems raised on the forum site with the manufacturers own made machines . – If we take AM and their horrible Servis Creations, what’s to say that your ISE machine is not one of theirs in disguise. Further do you have regular surprise inspections to their factories to ensure that they are adhering to your strict guidelines & criteria/quality for your machines & that they are not cutting corners with your brand name?
Simply Interested

Hi WQ,
Antonio Merloni don’t make ISE products.
The machine made by Arcelik (yes, that is the company name) are built to a spec set by us.
The thing is any factory can build to a quality or, they can build to a price. Some of the old Indesits, before the accountants called the shots, were actually pretty damn good but then they got into the price war thing, like most of the manufacturers have. The only way you can compete on price is to start stripping stuff out and down-spec’ing the machines.
I doubt that these manufacturers really want to build poor machines but it would appear that’s what people want, or wanted, as well as the large retailers so, that’s what they built.
It’s quite funny when you see the look on people’s faces in the industry when we say that we’re not really that bothered about the price but that we are bothered about quality and longevity. I think they all just assume we’re mad.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, I think a large swig of Gin is needed here for Dutch Courage………… :drunk: I better be polite here, otherwise I am gonna have the moddy kicking my backside.
OK, Let’s get Sir Edward Elgar’s Land of Hope & Glory playing on the CD Please. (And now in the style of Winston Churchill puffing on the old cigar)
“We should tell them, that their products are pretty dismal, that how ever much they dare close down our UK factories, and sack all of our skilled workers, that we will fight them on the beaches. That whoever dares to rape & pillage the heritage of our most once mighty brands of Hotpoint,Creda & Jackson will face the backlash of our mighty UKWhitegoods Forum. That those brave Knights (Washing Machine Engineers) who serve the motherland well, will continue to spread the message across the land to Housewives galore, that a few more appliance pence, makes a lot more common sense. That Britain’s once most favourite & trusted brand of washing machine (Hotpoint) will never ever surrender & nor replace that Italian inferior bit of tin they call an Ariston, however much gloss they (Merloni) may put on it. They may steal our heritage, but they can not steal our victory!
(Back to normal mode)
Failing that chuck!, you could always tell them that the Germans do it much better than the Italians.

Yes I think I might copy and paste that text, sums it all up really. And that is true, as Im sure there would be some green eyed monsterness if we told them about how well the Germans do it.
Im damn sure that will make them sit up straight and pay attention….September 29, 2007 at 8:54 pm #228793WhirlpoolQueen

Thank you Kwatt for your reply Honey. – I did a double take when I read the name of the firm. No I don’t think you are mad for putting Quality above Quantity, just very sensible. (Unlike me)
Cheers

The simple answer to your question is “Yes”. They are a solid, well made premium product.
However – ask yourself this: If it does go wrong, can I afford to have it repaired?
The price of Miele spares has long been a contentious issue among the repairers – they can at best be described as larcenous. In addition, the latest generation of machines can only be reset to original specification by a dedicated computer link held only by Miele service staff, so you are tied to company service for any and all problems.
When the machine is 7 or 8 years old, do you really want to pay those sort of charges?

Regards,
Penguin45.Which is why in my view, I think it is very wise to invest in an after care warranty of some sort which will cover you for such eventualities. – Looking at the bigger picture, if the machine was to last 8yrs and then be beyond economical repair, if it has been in regular use (more than 3 times a week) , then I think you can honestly say that you have had your monies worth during those 8yrs.
Gone are the days when you paid good money for a product and it would last a lifetime without needing any service attention at all. If you look at the amount of people on these forums that have paid in excess say of £250 for a mediocre brand such as Indesit, and then they are having to replace the product, through no fault of their own every 24 months, because the appliance is beyond economical repair, then over 8yrs, you are going to have to spend about £1,000 just buying the mediocre replacements, not to mention adding in extras such as cost of service calls when your mediocre is out of warranty. Now compared to the modest outlay of £550 for your basic Miele, the Miele looks the better financial option.
The problem is in these modern times, buying anything is a gamble, rather like playing the lottery, and it doesn’t matter what brand you buy, whether premium or non premium it is a gamble. Same with cars, I mean just look at Volvo, once a great car, now……..well let us not go there. I agree with Kwatt on this issue, that unfortunately as consumers, we seem to have sent the wrong message to the Whitegood Companies & that is Price before Quality. – Maybe the time has come for us to start & send a very different message.
In Finality, to the original poster who had the question, will the Miele last with three kids? – I can’t honestly say, but I hope that you enjoy your machine when it comes on Wednesday & that it does last you a lifetime, & maybe in 8 or 9yrs you may be kind enough to get in touch and say “It’s still working”. Maybe if I am still on this mortal coil, I could even be persuaded to buy you a pint or two in celebration.
