BlockedThe WTA is here, and it is now that we can all start to work towards a better future for our Industry. Now, we need some input. Everyone is invited to comment and air their thoughts on what they see is affecting our Industry. Have people got concerns about various issues that may affect the future of this Industry? What would people like to see addressed by our association? Basically, consider this to be a blank page in a scrap book. Lets get our pencils out and lets hear your views so we can all understand….
What do YOU want from it?

Amazing!….Almost 24hours has passed since you asked the question and no-one has replied in spite of 33 members reading your post (so far)….all very odd. :rolls:
OK….Pricing of spares for starters…..lobbying to whom it may concern to get them to set more realistic prices for spare parts.
Whirlpool are the biggest offenders here right now….bloody stupid money to fit a new control module on a t/dryer. £150 retail for a piddling little module that’s worth in real terms twopence halfpenny. Makes the simple job BER as a brand new dryer in stock right now on the WWW for just £207…….shocking truth…..ruining our business…..
One to stick in the pigeon hole for now I guess?

We are sure flooding this thread with ideas aren’t we? 😕
OK, being as certain criteria has to be met by all members and fully paid up ‘Public Liabiltity Insurance’ is one major condition for membership. (I would imagine?) Perhaps then the WTA the ideal way a fixed rate insurance policy can be available to members? A deal negotiated through just one company to benefit all members? 🙂
As an afterthought on the subject……will photocopies of current insurance certificates be a requirement towards membership of the WTA like it is (or should be at least???) as a member of Repairs@…? 😕

I’m on a roll here……
Incentive for membership recuitment perhaps may be (being as the price of spares is one major gripe)…….to negotiate a ‘Special Discount’ with certain wholesalers (i.e our friends Masterpart and CDSL?)….exclusive for WTA members?
OK it won’t be much I guess maybe at best 2.5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} to 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}?….dunno….but better than a smack in the gob for sure and could be at least something of a carrot dangling exercise…?
Just a thought? 😉

Only just noticed this thread 😳
For starters i’d like the Association to address the witholding of technical info by the manufacturers, i’ve posted before about this showing how in the car industry the legislation makes this illegal and i see no reason why this industry shouldn’t be any different.
I’d also like to see a dedicated WEEE scheme for the association, not a money earner but something to take the hassle away from particularly the sole trader who might not sell a great deal of new machines.
I would want the Association to elect an officer dedicated to dealing with governmental issues such as the environment and taxation, and to form channels of communication with other associations that may be relevant to small businesses. Along with that i’d like to see a dedicated communications/press officer to get the ‘splash’ of publicity that will make our voice be heard.
Big asks maybe but why not?

And another thing 😆
I’d like to see a (subsidised) legal advice service 8)

I think we need a bigger membership to do all this or massive increase in subs which in turn will do nothing to increase membership.
Catch 22 😕

I vote for a bigger membership which can be helped by a publicity officer…all the council are volunteers so a volunteer to do this would be a way forward. 😉

How come I always end up answering these ones! 😆 :rolls:
Tech info, we’re on it.
Warranties, we’re on it.
Publicity, we’re on it.
Government, we’ve been on that one for a while, but it’s slow painful work. 🙁
Legal cover, we already have access to some advice as seen previously. For legal services I’d suggest either a retainer with a good firm (I happen to know one given recent experiences but they ain’t cheap!) or some sort of insurance cover to negate costs. Just so happens I know a man that may be able to help us there as well.
Cheap vans, on it.
Loads of other stuff… also on it.
Any more? 😆
It’s amazing what you can do for a few quid a year but here’s the rub of it all…
It’s all possible IF we all try to play ball and support the stuff that we can do as much as we can. Volume can get us a long way.

Ken, on the subject of insurance, AXA are advertising on the radio an ‘all – in – one’ policy for people like us. Van insurance, van contents / tool insurance and public liability all in one package.
Could you speak to your contact in AXA about this. Can he do anything for the WTA members?
It sounded like a good deal. 😉Steve.

you took the words right out of my mouth 😆Seriously thanks ken for putting into words what’s going on ,I think one of the things that we are all beginning to realise is that by doing things together and sometimes differently to how they have always been done ,we can acheive a heck of a lot .
And this is just the beginning ….
Rest assured as all the members of the council( I hate that name as well-can someone think of something different )are truly independent the direction of the WTA will only ever be for the benefit of the independent’s.Lawrence

How about cracking a deal with a company for accepting credit and debit cards.
I got a great deal when I was a member of the FSB(and still have it although I am no longer a member) but I feel this would be another benefit for members.

Just an idea.
How about clear and concise guidelines about Heath and Safety, Risk Assessment, use of Test equipment etc, so as members are in no doubt of what their obligations are. Would this give greater credence to the TA? -
