i must say that whereas i’m not as busy as i used to be,(i am now ex directory and i don’t advertise). you might guess that i’m not too active in attracting extra work but even though i’m in a very rural area i would be very interested in joining your scheme for no other reason than to help it get off the ground.
keep me posted

The salesman from Yellow Pages came to see me today. I simply repeated my advertising with them for next year as I am reluctantly forced to do so, and they realise this of course!
But I couldn’t help notice the ‘Sales Summary Sheet’ the guy was getting my previous history from. Under the heading “Sales Opportunity” they had typed “Nurture” and under the heading “Tier” I was listed as “Gold“?
When I raised the subject with the guy he simply said…”I am very pleased your faith in Yellow Pages remains the same as ever, and I am grateful for that at least!”
Cheeky sod!…and off he roared in his ‘top of the range’ Peugeot 👿

Hate them, hate them!
Last year, when I challeged the rep over their high prices, he threw a stroop and threatened to leave 👿
Then, us advertising in 4 different catagories wasn’t enough for them. They sent us a letter pointing out a potential 20-odd new catagories for us to consider 🙁
Washer sales… washer spares… washer service… washer rentals… dryer sales… dryer spares… etc
Luckily, nobody in this area was stupid enough to take them up on the offer of a new catagory!

The Competition Commission confirmed that telephone directories group Yell will be able to raise the price it charges for advertising in the Yellow Pages in line with inflation from April 2008.
Until then, it will stick with the current formula that has forced it to cut prices by 6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} less than inflation to curb its 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} stranglehold. Yell will welcome the move, flagged in the Commissions preliminary findings in September, although it ‘continues to believe that no regulation is needed’.
BT’s re-entry to the market and Internet search engines are keeping Yell on its toes…

ParticipantI was conned into advertising in that 118-247 that yell do, well i was told to EXPECT to get between 4-5 calls a week from it but in fact actually only got 3 calls in 16 months total.
After 1,3 and 5 months I called them complaining I wasnt getting any calls from this service and wanted my money back due to the salesmans false promises, they refused saying I must have taken in what he said incorrectly, I know I didnt though because there was 3 of us in the room at the time and I questioned him on what his claims were based.
Anyway on the last call I told them unless I was refunded I would be cancelling my forthcoming adverts that were due to go in, they refused so I cancelled over 2 grands woth of advertising (for the sake of refunding me £135 talk about them cutting off their own nose) any way since then I have had many phone calls from them asking me to advertise again but take pleasure in telling them they wont see the colour of my money again.

118247 got us no calls in a year! (Yes, I ask every new customer how they found us.)
Yell.com is far too expensive for what you get 🙁
And we tryed a year without advertising in the yellow pages book, and there was a noticeable drop in new customers. So we decided that we would have to carry on paying their brutal prices for advertising!

KeymasterRe: yell.com
It was really funny the other day as I got a call from Yell wanting us to renew the advert.
As I explained that, for the £3K that was paid out we only had a few hundred referrals despite being promised approximately 200 a month we would not be renewing the advert. At first the poor woman tried to defend the costs telling me that they’d do better next year. That was until I mumbled about trying to reclaim some costs as they had not delivered what they had said they would.
I did offer to pay per click that we registered as we see all incoming referrers and I even offered to setup a tracking system to monitor the traffic.
They didn’t want to go for that funnily enough. 😉
In short, IMO, it wasn’t very good and did not deliver what was billed at the outset. So, we won’t be doing that again.
