I would hope my customers would trust my judgement on whether to use pattern or genuine parts, based on years of experience. If you go down the route of only using the exact part specified by manufacturer X for model Y you would end up with a van loaded down with duplicated spares such as a dozen Askoll pumps, one in Distripart packaging, one in Merloni packaging, GIAS, Whirlpool etc etc. I tend to give pattern parts the benefit of the doubt until they prove unsatisfactory, like many of the non genuine carbons for the Hotpoint GEC motor. I fit pattern brushes for Zanussi, Indesit, Bosch etc with no problems. In some cases the price differences are so great that the only way to avoid an appliance being BER is to do the repair using pattern parts.

I was responding to the post from Stratford girl that her firm fit only genuine parts.

Has anyone tried the online payment facility? I just tried to do it but got a “Page not found” message. The Connect site has been giving loads of trouble for the last week or so anyway. At one stage I could not access the site. Connect told me to delete the URL from my bookmarks list, type the address manually and re-enter it in bookmarks. This did work but the site certainly seems to have gremlins still 🙁

Tried online payment earlier. In the end phoned the order through.
Will see how it goes next time.November 5, 2008 at 4:53 pm #264617RickT

I put a payment through last week no problem at all. The site has been slow this week though. Just put in pne request in, spent ages trying make myself as clear as possible describing the part, clicked submit. It then gave me a possible match, clicked on it to magnify pic. Wrong part, clicked back and no page found lost all the info I’d typed in
