You have it suedehead1. I had checked the door switch. I thought it was the timer/controller so was removing it when I found a connector was loose. The connectors there are well hidden under the flanges at the corner of the machine and not obvious until disassembly. The loose connection was in the door lock circuit. It all works now.

As for your safety advice guys. Thanks. I have played with electricals for donkey’s ages (up to 150kV+) so am well aware of the nasty potential. I am always very careful. However, as has been said, don’t try this at home folks.
