ParticipantRe: Hotpoint AQXXD169 not spinning with a load
Hi to helo_75 and DDSDDS,
Many thanks and how stupid do I feel!
Before you think ‘not another newbie who doesn’t read the sticky threads’, I had read the thread you posted helo_75, but as I had tried the cycle with just a single item and it still didn’t spin, I thought there was a real problem. However, as you suggested, I loaded it today with a full load, and hey presto! Strange that the uneven load sensor had kicked in for the first time in 3 years however, as the load was no different to any I have used before.
Something else learnt from this excellent website.

Yes I have tried it with the switch on, but still no good.
I’m going to have to take the front off and check the heater resistance……
I’m beginning to think it’s just a coincidence that the element may have packed in soon after fitting the new switches. Thanks for all your advice, iadom.

I’m not entirely sure (see top post)! 😕
Assuming it wasn’t, I’m wondering if there may be a problem with the wiring to the ‘Economy wash’ switch, i.e. somehow it’s ‘on’ the whole time, bypassing the heater.
Do you know if I can make a simple resistance check of the wires going to this switch before removing the whole front panel to get to the heater?al2

Hi again, the serial no. is 36130532.
When you say the front panel, do you mean the small panel containing the switches and soap drawer?
Thanks.

Ok, thanks iadom, I’ll check the serial number tonight.
Would you know approximately what resistance reading I should get across the element?
Also, is there easy access to the appropriate wires from the top of the machine, for example at the ‘Economy wash’ switch which prevents any water heating? As you say, the machine works fine otherwise, but does ‘rush’ through the cycle quicker than normally…… and of course the water remains cold.

Ok, ok, I’ve been told!! 😳
I’ve put in an enquiry for said switch on this site, and I won’t be using the machine until it arrives!
The bodge was done because the guy in the local spares shop told me the switch only comes in a bank of four and costs around £50 – no excuse really, I know. Also, I wasn’t aware of the implications.
Oh well, not a good start – managed to upset the mods with my very first post… 😕

Many thanks, Penguin45 – it was indeed the on/off switch causing the problem.
Fortunately the problem was on the neutral side within the switch, so simply joining the 2 neutral wires to the switch cured it. This should be acceptable as they both simply provide the return path for the current.
No parts required! 😀
Thanks again.
