thanks for that
part of me is thinking of simply running a wire from the front door switch to the rear thermostats but which thermostat? top or bottom? and would that work?
its either that or a new machinealjaxon

the front thermostat had continuity so Im not gonna replace that, the two wires to the door switch at the top are now gunk free and the switch is operating as it should. there is a collection of wires connecting into a transparent box even higher than the start and run cool switches. what is that and how to check if it is no good?
cheers
still no heat. is there anything else down in the bowels that would switch the supply to the thermostats off? I can see a couple of things with wires leading to them

there seems to be a black plastic electrical unit above it -the door closed switch?
the connectors leading to this were corroded to hell – I doubt there was a circuit and I reckon this could be the problem. it was that corroded the plastic shroud around the connector had decayed into nothing!!!the machine spun but no heat. would that rule out the top door switch malfunction as it wouldn’t turn if it was faulty? or is this just a switch for the heat?

ParticipantRe: Miele w1514 drain fault
there is no info on the net for this model so im gonna report my findings.
took element out and its faulty, ie open circuit.
to get element out you have to push it all the way in after removing wires and circular clips plus metal shield, then the rubber seal or plug prises out much more easily.
the sensor in the bottom has a polystyrene disc in it which connects to a switch. its obviously to detect water inside the machine. to my thinking vibration could trigger it which i think has been happening in my case.
taking a gamble that parts available for other models will fit mine so fingers crossed. -
