ParticipantChanged the control board which made no difference. Then following your suggestion started unplugging things in turn, since there’s not not much else to go wrong.
It was after unplugging the water input solenoids that the fault went away. To my surprise, when I plugged them back in, the fault did not come back !
There may be some weird wiring issue which has been cleared for the moment by the movement of the wiring loom ? Fingers crossedMarch 22, 2025 at 7:18 pm in reply to: Zanussi ZWI71201WA stops after one second – no fault code #492402alternativeGeorge
ParticipantThanks for the suggestion Dave. I replaced the brushes although there was still some life left in the originals.
The fault behaviour did not change. I’m going to try replacing the control board as there’s no obvious signs of damage anywhere else.alternativeGeorge
ParticipantAs an engineer, I’m well aware of the dangers and precautions associated with microwaves. In my case, I have already replaced the magnetron which had a melted antenna.
I can understand that Panasonic would want to lock out the microwave function to prevent further damage, but their design is poor because it also locks out the fan oven and grill functions which are not affected by the H98 fault.
It sounds as if I need to find a tame microwave engineer who is also a Panasonic tech partner ?
I can’t find one in Edinburgh !alternativeGeorge
ParticipantThanks Dave, that’s where I found some reset sequences for other models. Unfortunately none of them have a touch pad control panel.
Where could I get a service manual for the HL-MX465B or at least the bit with the reset sequence ? Where do microwave service engineers go for this information ?

ParticipantThere are some Panasonic service manuals online and they typically describe this issue as follows :-
“H97 and H98 error code display –
“If 3 times H97 or 2 times H98 exist, microwave oven can not be used any more, even if the defective parts have already been replaced
“How to reset for the service – please take the following steps
” 1. Plug in oven
” 2. Press Stop/Reset pad once
” 3. Open the door
” 4. Press the Start pad for more than 2 seconds until buzzer beeps
” 5. Press the Stop/Reset pad 3 times (oven will show total magnetron usage time)
” 6. Press the power level pad (oven will show total number of H97 and H98 occurrences)
” 7. Press the Start pad for more than 2 seconds until buzzer beeps to reset
” 8. At end of reset buzzer beeps and display shows EEPENDMy combination microwave does not have a conventional keypad and has instead an electronic display with touch keys.
There are no equivalent pads/touch_keys on the display so can’t replicate the sequence show above !e triedI have been unable to find the corresponding sequence by trial and error and feel that I need to find someone who can access the service manual for this model.
