    This could be the case as I think it is the heavier loads that are tripping electrics, I am not overloading it but it is things like towels that seem to set it off.
    Would I notice any difference when turning the drum by hand?

    I spoke to soon, washing machine has tripped the electrics and blown several fuses 🙁 the engineer has had the top and the front off the machine but can find no faults. I have plugged the machine into a different socket and it will get through one or two washes and then start tripping the electrics again.

    I have been searching on here and have read about worn brushes causing this problem, is it possible for a machine this age to have worn brushes already.

    Just in case anyone has the same problem, it turned out to be the heater. Apparently this model is noisy on spin anyway so that had nothing to do with it.

    All repaired under guarantee and up and running now 😀
