    I will try this, though it was working correctly for a couple years in its current cold inlet only configuration.

    No, cold inlet connected to cold, a cover is on the hot inlet.

    Hi Jim-

    Thank you for your advice. We are in rural France and the local repair shop has closed down, so I am in the unforturnate position of DIY or buy a new one.

    The machine is currently only supplied by cold water. It will not run any but the 40 degree (or less) washes. It just does not advance on any other setting; and will not heat the water if I set the temperature higher for the cycles where it does run.

    I suppose what I called the thermostat is better termed a temperature sensor and it does provide a varying resistance when imersed in warm water. Likewise I was able to (dangerously?) ascertain that the heating element is working.

    Where would you recommend I start troubleshooting?
