Thanks for the response.

I purchased a new belt today and fitted it this evening, much tighter than the old one, I had to use a metal tube to persuade it to go on, but I got it there without too much effort.

Well I thought this would be it, but unfortunatley the noise continued, I couldn’t work out which area it was coming from (front or back), but then the drum stopped turning and I got an electrical burning smell.

Well I’ll now either have to go to a proffesional to get my botch job put right, or I’m looking for a new dryer.
