ParticipantRe: PTC Start Relay QP2-15
Confirmed the problem is the start relay, took it apart and there was 2 loose chips from the ceramic disc inside, took the disc out, turned it around and put it back in so that it made contact with both metal pins inside again, put it back on the compressor and hey presto! Freezer is working again.
Had already ordered a replacement from Hong Kong which will be here in a few weeks, that cost less than £1.50 and in the meantime I won’t keep much in the freezer just in case and will keep an eye on it.BB78

Hi ED1, I’ve got to admit I haven’t done anything about it, from the advice I received I’ve kind of taken it as read that it’s the compressor and I need a new freezer and if that’s the case I’ve got to decide between buying another undercounted freezer or going back to a tall fridge freezer.
I would love to know for sure as everything I’ve read says that the rattling start relay suggests that it’s broken and I’m not entirely sure whether I’m using the right setting on the multimeter.
I might just order one of the relays I’ve found on eBay & wait however long for it to be delivered, for the sake of a couple of quid I’d then know for sure.BB78

Oh don’t say that cause that means a new freezer.
I’ll have to get the multimeter out again because I can’t remember the readings but I’ve read that what I’m looking for on the compressor is the highest reading across 2 pins and the other two readings should add up to the highest reading within 1/2ohms if the compressor is fine.
My only other way of checking it would be to see what PTC is on the fridge and try swapping them if they are the same.BB78
ParticipantRe: PTC Start Relay QP2-15
When I take it off and shake it it rattles, although that said with the probes right inside the holes I was getting 15ohms on one setting on the multimeter. I also tested each pin on the compressor and was getting readings, although admittedly I’m no expert to know if they are right.
Do you think it could be something else then?
The freezer is only a couple of years old and just started doing this out of the blue, it makes a click which sounds like it’s coming from the area of the PTC & overload, the compressor doesn’t start, about 30 seconds later it clicks again, wait a few minutes and the cycle starts again so it sounds like it’s trying to start but can’t.BB78

Shocking! :rotfl:
Recently fitted new tapes & all the plumbing was checked so no worries there, draining board could do with resealing anyway and with the cupboard out of the way I could seal from underneath too for a belt ‘n braces approach.BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
I’m not bothered about brand name to be honest, I can’t afford most of the rated brands anyway, as long as it’s ok to go under the draining board, fits the space & works I don’t really care who built it.
If it’s ok to put an appliance under the draining board then it can be a fridge or freezer as there’s no interference from the kitchen door, I’ve just got to work out how I’m going to move the end panel to make it work.BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
Damn! Damn! Damn! Forgot how far the pipes behind the cupboard stick out, with boxing in the freezer would stick out 13cm past the edge of the worktop. 😥 Back to the drawing board.
If I can butcher & effectively half the carcass under the kitchen sink can a fridge or freezer be placed under a stainless steel draining board?
I’ve got 85cm in height, width the same again 50cm (maybe 1 or 2cm more depending on where the adapted cabinet ends), depth might be the problem now though as I’ve only got 51cm before it sticks out past the edge of the worktop.BB78

This fridge seems ok too http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/refrigeration/fridges/essentials-cul50w12-undercounter-fridge-white-12272069-pdt.html?gclid=CNupt_3P8r8CFcbJtAodzT4AhA&srcid=198&cmpid=ppc~gg~~~Exact&mctag=gg_goog_7904&s_kwcid=AL!3391!3!53188638084!!!g!56960006945!&ef_id=U9vS9QAAAT-STF2U:20140801174837:s £99.99 with free delivery and free recycling.
What I save on the fridge makes up for the extra spent on the Beko freezer. 🙂BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
Not sure how much heat they give off as they’ve always been behind the back of the kitchen cabinet but I could box them in using thermal plasterboard or ply & XPS, I would’ve thought that would give a fair amount of insulation between the two.
It would potentially only be for a year by which time I’ll hopefully be able to afford new worktops and to move & replace the sink, then there’ll be enough space for the washing machine to go in front of the pipes & the freezer next to it, it’s just a shame I can’t do it now and that my current fridge freezer isn’t going to last.BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
A little more than I was hoping to spend but the budget will have to stretch to get something that fits. Nice work
Something else I should’ve considered, can a freezer go below a combi boiler? The boiler is mounted on the wall 45cm above the worktop so would be 53cm above the freezer but the pipes run down the wall so would be behind the back of the freezer, I could box them in & maybe insulate them if they are likely to be giving off too much heat that it would affect the freezer, freezer would then sit forward from the edge of the worktop by a few cm’s but that’s ok.BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
No skirting board, measurement is wall to sink cabinet end panel so bang goes that idea.
What about a fridge, I’ve seen a couple that are 47/48cm can they go in a 500mm space? Pain in the back side putting the fridge there as its behind the kitchen door but its the only space I’ve got for now.BB78
ParticipantRe: Slimline Freezer?
Thanks Don, I’ve been Googling & trawling through various sites but I guess what I’m really trying to find out is does a 50cm freezer fit in a 500mm space or does it need gaps either side so the space actually needs to be 540mm or something? I’ve got no tolerance as one side is the kitchen wall & the other is a cupboard with the sink above it.

ParticipantRe: LG GR232-SBD Fridge Freezer condensation & ice
Bugger! Looks like I’ll have to put up with the ice till it dies then. Need to keep it going for as long as possible as I want under counter separates when I replace it but I don’t have room until I can redo the kitchen which won’t be for a while. 🙁
Thanks for the reply Bob (Samuri)
