Re: Advice needed – Safety Issue!

An update…Hotpoint engineer came, said that the indesit group are now aware of the Bosch recall situation (said info was filtering through to them about a fortnight ago) and that the engineers are doing FREE inspections and replacement of faulty circuit boards, said that they would ‘green spot’ machines that were OK and/or had had a new PCB. As i was talking to him on the phone (my better half waited in for the visit) i didn’t probe him on what that meant.

Anyway, wouldn’t you know it, he said the PCB on my DWF30 was fine, so what exactly they are looking for, well, you guys will probably know, but i haven’t a clue. He told the better half that ours was the first one he’s been called to and said he himself really wants one of these machines as they are so good…better half said didn’t think to ask how much he’d give for ours 👿 Oh well 😀

So -at the risk of sounding that i actually care- i guess as to what happens to all the other DWF30’s out there will be down to how Indesit decide to inform the world of the problem. If at all. But anyway, so that you all know, DWF30 (and i guess other models in the serial number ranges affected) owners can contact Indesit service for a free inspection.

Fair enough. Its funny, ‘cos i only ever knew this to happen on Zanussi, which is why i wondered…all other machines i had or sold in the showroom were supposed to click straight through.

Forgot to say, if it is as i suggested, you may find a solid line on the dial bewteen the end of the cycle and the start of the short spin. This used to indicate a dead stop and was not present on the cotton cycles, where as you know, the spin is automatic.

Is it supposed to though? Last Zanussi i had, it would stop at the short-spin, because it was the end of a ‘delicate’ cycle. Thus, the clothes stay in water so as not to crease and then the user manually selects either a short or long spin upon returning to the machine.

My mothers original Z918 used to do exactly the same, albiet the door-lock would come off after 2 minutes, thus she flooded the kitchen more than once when she forgot it was full of water!

    Re: Bosch carbon-brush motors

I am afraid that in this house our washing-machine usage borders on the commercial side. I spend all day cleaning peoples homes and my partner is a nurse, thus our clothes all get washed at 60 degrees. And not a standard cycle either, a long extra-rinse cotton cycle.

Bedlinen i will not wash at less than 60 as it is not hygenic. There is a lot of that in one week too, as my dogs have a duvet on the floor which i wash weekly. In fact, i don’t wash much at less than 60.

And then there are my work cloths and mops 😳 About 3 times a week i boil-wash a full load of cloths and mop-heads. Time was, i actually had two washing machines plumbed-in and in use, the 2nd being a Hoover ‘european style’ top loader (the sort with 2 loading flaps in the drum)which was marvelous as i just used to drop the cloths right in from the bag. But since i moved, space is not what it was, so reluctantly i use one machine for all. But i do have one -a Daewoo which i bought in an ’emergancy’ when my Bosch broke- in the garage as a spare!

Best washer i ever had was a Boschg WFF2001, which my MIL is still using, 12 years after i bought it. Worst was a Whirlpool. I never ever felt it washed ‘properly’ and i was forever getting small items stuck bewteen the drum and teh door, where they’d sit for the whole cycles and not get washed 🙁 I really hated that machine 👿

Re: Advice needed – Safety Issue!

Ah, Jim, yes LOL, sorry, i think i saw ur three-letter name and muddled it up with your I.D.!

As i said before, i now (and have for many years) run a domestic cleaning business. It is interesting to see what things (not just appliances) people buy and own, and how they fair. So many people i’ve worked for and do still work for have had a Bosch dishwasher under one name or another (Neff, Seimens etc). They must have a good reputation. When i was selling them, our leader was Indesit, because back then dishwashers were still seen as very much a ‘luxury’ item, so folk didnt usually want to be seen to be spending £££ on them.

My first dishwasher -for my sins- was a lovely looking Ariston. I was never confident in it actually. I had it for 2 years and 3 months, before it flooded the kitchen. Why? Well the spot-welds had failed around the cabinet and the framework came loose. Merloni told me this had been an on-going issue and had mine failed sooner (i think they said 18 months) they would have replaced the machine FOC. As it stood, they sold me a brand-new T-O-L Indesit for £70, direct from the factory. What a joke. First one flooded and it took me no end of engineers calls and arguing to get the 2nd one taken away. Had it for 3 months. A joke.

And then i bought my DWF30. And i love it. Like i say, 4 house moves and it still goes on. I won’t and never have used it when i am out as too many people came to me in the showroom and said their ‘old’ dishwasher had started a fire. Its funny, because i bought a Creda condensor dryer and the Ariston dishwasher in the December of 2000, and by early 2002, both were dud. The Bosch sensor condensor dryer i got and the Hotpoint dishwasher have both been troopers, although the dryer is actually falling to bits and now lives in the shed…and yet refuses to die. I did in fact get 2 dryers for the price of one, but that was due to a cock-up at Bosch home delivery. Thats another story.

Anyway, thanks for all your advice so far…i will deffo keep this one updated. Cheers.

    Hi ian, thanks again.

Mine does not have a stick-on label, mine has all the info engraved on the steel door panel, on the top. The FD number is 8204 980193. The number which seems to pass as the EN-R is SGSHPF5GB. Typ S9H1H.

    Hi Ian

So does that mean the parts were made by Bosch and assembled here, or that Hotpoint made the identical parts in their own factory? Mine is a DWF30P/17, bought in May 2002. That fits in with the dates you give. What i do recall most was that it was a ‘current’ model, though as i had left the showroom shortly before i bought it, i didnt keep abreast of the replacement machine. IIRC, the ‘Indesit’ machines took over not long after i got mine. Never, ever, to my dying day, will i have an Indesit dishwasher. Never.

    Jim.

Jim, when was the last time you know of that Hotpoint made a dishwasher under license? I ask this because the guy in the vacuum repair shop said he was going back a long, long way, and added that he had no knowledge that this had either continued or ceased by the 1990’s and the 00’s. He said that Bosch built them for Hotpoint and such was the success that the licence to produce them in the UK was set up.

Where i am getting confused here is that you say that the ‘Made in the EU’ stamp means its a Hotpoint dishwasher made in the UK, whereas Martin says its a Bosch. I am not of course looking for trouble and i am sure you all realise this 😉 I am just trying to tie-up the loose ends.

Indeed i recall well the Crosslee dryers made with the bosch name, and in our store we had nothing to do with them. It was easier to sell a White-Knight (Crosslee) from our warehouse than attempt to order in one with the Bosch name. Wouldn’t have been so bad if the door was of the quality one expected of a Bosch and i am lost as to why Crosslee was selected as the one they wanted to use :rolls:

Well lads, today i was in the home of one of my clients’, and her newer-that-mine Bosch dishwasher was stamped ‘Made in the EU’ also.

I have it in mind from my salesroom training that in the last 15 years the only british-made Hotpoint dishwasher was the first edition range. But time moves on and it gets harder to recall specific details 😕

LOL Martin, i thought your tag-line was in reference to me 😕 Cos you know, i did search first. Anyway, thanks for your reply. You agree its a Bosch dishwasher i have, well how does that work viz a viz the part about Hotpoint licensing the design from Bosch? I’d never heard of that before, but as per my previous, i heard it twice yesterday.

I am quite, quite bothered by this problem, and think that if i can’t sort it, i will buy a new machine. I will be sad if i have to do this, as my DWF30 has been just the best. It’s moved house with me 4 times since i had it! And in my current carrear running a cleaning service, i see Bosch and Bosch-Hotpoint dishwashers which have been running for years.

I may, if you don’t mind, show your photo to the Hotpoint engineer when he/she arrives.

    Thanks so much.

Can’t beleive a motor fault has been diagnosed at first point of action, because I’ve had faulty switches and broken leads stop these cleaners working.

Re: Advice needed – Safety Issue!

    Hi Iadom

Thanks so much for that. Funny you say this about licencing, as i heard this already today from a guy who runs a local vacuum / washer repair shop. His uncertainity as to whether or not Hotpoint had continued with this practice, and his readily admitted vague knowledge of dishwashers altoghether, was the reason i never thought to mention it.

I am very confused now…my machine does indeed say ‘made in EU’, but the rating plate is identical to that of the Bosch and the number SGSHPF5GB is what the guy at Bosch said counted for the E-NR number. This is clearly visable to my eyes and even with the help of a torch i see no numbers which were hard to find.

My understanding -and i am happy to be corrected- was that Bosch were making the Hotpoint Aquarius and Ultima models at the time i bought mine, whilst the First Edition -a machine which looked quite, quite different, was Hotpoints ‘own’ machine. Indeed i recall well selling a F.E. to a man who demanded he bought onlu British goods. As a young lad back then, i couldn’t see his point. Aged 33 now, i see exactly where he was coming from…but i digress.

So, to recapp, how do you (personally) know that the licencing arrangment was active in the 00’s? I’m not questioning you of course, just trying to get it all right in my head. And as before, what should i be doing? I just don’t get why these machines would have ‘Bosch’ rating stamps and ‘Bosch’ serial numbers.
