Thanks for the advice. I changed the stat ok but unfortunately that didn’t fix the problem – it is still (almost) constantly running (with associated gurgling noises) and overcooling (freezing) the fridge section. Thought the stat was playing up because if I moved it about a bit the back of the fridge would then defrost. On reflection, I think the cutout was probably kicking in and switching the system off for a while. Time to think of a new one I think. Cheers anyway. Bill.

Ordered the part from Whitegoods yesterday at about 1pm and it arrived this morning. Have just fitted to oven and everything works fine now. Thanks to Penguin for the initial advice and Dave for the prompt ordering/delivery.

Do you have a link for the part on the site as I can’t seem to find it advertised or is it a generic part? We’ll manage over Christmas by blowing a cooling fan at the top control panel of the oven – seems to work ok then !!!
