ParticipantRe: New Fridge/Freezer slow to cool
The food we put in the fridge was mostly fridge temperature as we had just been shopping (an hour previously). In addition there were a couple of room temperature cartons of milk. We removed a lot of the food after the appliance refused to cool down properly so there really isn’t much food in the fridge at the moment.
This morning the fridge is now up to 9 degrees C. We set it on maximum again and noticed the compressor is actually going on and off periodically even though the fridge is only 9 degrees. I suppose that means the thermostat is saying it is cool to the maximum coolness it can get to? Surely 9 degrees isn’t sufficient and the compressor should be running to get it lower than that?
It’s supposed to be frost-free but there’s a buildup of ice on the back of the fridge. Is it possible that the high temperature is caused by the ‘heater’ that kicks in to melt the frost periodically? Also does the heater kick in each time the compressor switches off, or would the compressor automatically switch off to allow the heater to kick in, even if the fridge wasn’t cool to the desirable temperature according to it’s thermostat setting?

Just to update, we ran the fridge all night at full setting and it was at 5 degrees by morning. Other much older fridges weve had in the past would have had some of the food starting to freeze if we did this.
In the manual it says setting the thermostat mid way would achieve 5 degrees. This one is struggling to hit 5 at full setting! Now after opening the door a couple times its back up to 10 degrees. Am I expecting too much for this fridge or is there reason for my concern? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

The Comet engineer just came out and said it is the compressor and they will have to replace the entire unit as it’s not cost effective to repair it. Comet no longer stock that model.
