    Thanks, George – we found the triac number last night and ordered one from somewhere – I think it might have been allsorts! (Most of the shops were selling them in large batches, but we only need a single one.)

    Given that the fault reporting and program lights / door shut etc was working, I’m hoping that the rest of the board chips are alright. Certainly there’s no visible damage to them.

    I understand from our electronics guy who found the triac problem, that they act as switches within the circuit. Does it sound likely that a drip of water would cause the triac to blow, the RCD to trip in the room, and the subsequent inability of the washer to start its programs properly (if an important switch isn’t working).
