Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Cold air not getting from Freezer to Fridge.
In these S by Ss the fridge is cooled by air blown in from the freezer. This is the job of the evaporator fan, usually located half way up the back of the freezer behind a panel. Mine works fine. But then I discovered a thingy at the top left of the fridge which seems to be an electrically operated gate used to control the cold air entering the fridge. I don’t know what it’s called but I jammed it open and at least the fridge now works (it’s summer; I probably can’t leave it like that for the winter.) My problem is, is this gate broken, is the temperature sensor broken, or is the fault in the control board that controls everything? Does anyone have any ideas? Nothing is iced up so that’s not the problem.

Don’t know if this is a side-by-side item, but if it is, the fridge is cooled by air blown in from the freezer. This is the job of the evaporator fan, usually located half way up the back of the freezer behind a panel. This could be bust or you might find a huge chink of ice behind this panel blocking the air flow. There is also a thingy (technical term) at the top left of the fridge which seems to be an electrically operated louver used to control the cold air entering the fridge. I don’t know what it’s called but mine is broke so I jammed it open and at least the fridge now works (it’s summer; I probably can’t leave it like that for the winter.) My problem is, is this gate broken, is the temperature sensor broken, or is the fault in the control board that controls everything? Does anyone have any ideas?
