Could you kindly quote that regulation you paraphrase herein?
Thanks!

Thanks Martin. The hinge has already been removed, so the question is, when you say “short out the lid microswitch”, which part in the diagram is that?

Addendum:
Having looked at their website, it seems the hinge may not be removable from the glass, as it’s one part “351”:

When the lid is open, it obviously pushes something that completes a circuit with the gas safety switch.
Can any clever sausage here tell me where that switch is located?
– Is it part “8”?
– Is it the central metal spring on part “348”?
– Or is it in the hinges of “348”?I haven’t lived in the UK for many years so I am working blind. As the engineer probably cannot remove the glass from the hinge as r600a recommended, I’d like to just tell the oven that the glass is “not down”. This is obviously 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} safe and realistic because if the glass is in the cupboard, then it is indeed “not down”. The sole reason for the gas safety cut off is if the glass is “down”, to prevent it shattering if the hobs turn on. There is absolutely no issue with setting the gas safety switch to believe the glass is not down, when the glass is not down, because if it is not down, then it is not down. (I hope I didn’t over-stress that point!)
Looking forward to proactive answers to how to adjust the switch as desired and as is evidently and patently safe.

I think there are more reckless acts going on in the world to concern us than a bit of glass on a British oven.
I am here for can do, positive, common sense solutions and I think that’s reasonable of me. I realize gas safety is very important, but as most ovens don’t have a lid and are equally safe, this isn’t actually a safety issue. The safety valve is attached to the hinge solely to prevent the gas coming on when the lid is closed, so the glass does not shatter with heat. As the glass is not in place now, gas safety is moot. It cannot shatter if it’s in the cupboard. It’s as safe as any other oven.
I respectfully disagree that cutting into the cupboard above, or replacing a new oven, beggar less belief than simply removing glass so the oven is like 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of other ovens. That seems very sensible given the 3 options.
Bringing things back to topic, we will reinstate the hinge and leave it pointed upwards as r600a cleverly suggested. That leaves just one issue.
Q: How do we remove the glass from the hinge as recommended here? It seemed pretty well stuck in there when the installer tried.

I’m not on site but it’s very high. The glass lid just clips the rightmost cupboard by 1cm.
Thanks!

Easy way is to remove the glass from the bar support and refit it in the upright position.
The purpose of the safety device is when the lid is closed it turns the gas off so it does not shatter and break.

How much would you charge to put this right in TW9? I see its just a little bit outside of your normal service area. The ideal solution would be to reinstate just the hinge and remove the glass. Failing that the whole glass lid could be reinstated. Thanks!

But as r600a says above, I can remove the lid, but keep the hinge in place?

That makes sense. As it is now, the silver hinge is entirely removed and the oven reassembled. There is just a small hole where the bar support used to live. I believe the glass was not easy to remove from the bar support, which is why.
Is there a way to have the oven believe that the bar support is in the upright position, without it actually being fitted? I’m assuming there is some sort of dial or hinge inside that just needs to be turned?
