thanks so much to both of you for your replies. I tried the cleaning of the black grid first as this seemed easiest and hey presto – so far – have been able to run a full wash and a pre rinse program (tried to both to ensure not fluke!) and they are completing – previously they just stopped and alarmed again with same fault.

Cheers for your time – fantastic – saved a call out and a potentially large bill for a simple job (fingers crossed!)

incidentally, I have found out that to remove door you need to slacken screws 2 and 4 on it and lift up and off – but my partner is reluctant to try this and end up losing brackets cos we may over losen the screws. Manual says two turns only on screws – did this with no success – SURELY IT depends on how tight they were screwed from start???? (sorry for caps).
