I went out today and bought a Bosch! I hope that will be ok. It has metal paddles, and I took note of what Dave recommended before, and am glad I didnt get an LG after reading Kirk Sparky and Kwatts comments. I have written to Merloni about my Hotpoing and so far they havent got back to me. I am going to keep it in the garage, and asked if someone somewhere could have a look at it and tell me why it has been so much hassle.
I have even advised others in the washing machine shops, who I have seen deciding to buy a Hotpoint, not to do so. I would hate to think others could have the same hassle as me. Thank you all of you who have helped me, I really appreciate it. I will write in when I hear from Merloni.

Could anyone tell me anything about LG machines. I have noted your recommended machines, I havent replaced my horrible hotpoint yet, but was out choosing yesterday and noticed LG do a washing machine that is direct drive and takes a big 7kg or 7.5kg load. I cant find a lot of information about their reliability, could any of you help me?

Im fed up! I thought all may be well with my machine, but no! I havent washed any trainers, heavy washing, big loads (cos Im scared if I do, the lifters will break), they are clipped in properly, as instructed on this thread, but since my last post, unbelievably, 3 more lifters have broken! I really wish I had kept all the receipts for all the replacements I have ever bought. Its a joke, what a waste of money! As soon as I can afford it I will replace my machine. Can any of you people in the know recommend which would be the best one to buy? Im so fed up!

I agree with you Maxie, I would never buy Hotpoint again, as you can see from my first posting I had to have a new drum when my machine was only 13months old as the bearings had gone. When the engineer came from Hotpoint he wouldnt even pull the washing machine out from under the worktop, he asked me to do it – me a mere 5’and tiny, and he was a strapping 6footer. A neighbour had exactly the same problem with hers and had a new drum, so it wasnt a one off. That added to the lifter problem, which has been better since I was helped on this site, has made me decide, never again. I agree, when I have tried to contact Hotpoint by email, they just ignore me. It wouldnt have been too hard for them to give me the advice that I have had here. Im sure they have made a lot of money from the plastic lifters. Best of luck with watchdog!

Its me again. I know that I wasnt putting the lifters in properly, and now for the moment they seem ok. I do think a lot of people must be having trouble with them, as I have bought my supply from 3 different shops and each shop gave me the impression that they werent much cop. I asked one man why they kept snapping off, he said, cos they are crap!(His words, not mine).I did email hotpoint, but they never replied. Maybe I wasnt told how to fit them properly as I was such a good customer getting replacements. The next machine that I buy will definitely have metal lifters! Maybe plastic was used to cut costs, but it looks like hotpoint will lose some customers. Still, touch wood, all does seem fine – we do have smelly trainers, but nice clean clothes!

well, I did as sparkyp suggested, and they are still ok! I didnt clip them in as you said, so hopefully everything will be fine now, at least for a while. I have washed trainers, thats what started this in the first place – have to have smelly feet from now on!

Thank you, I will try that in just a mo. You may have stopped me going mad! I did ask in the repair shop if there was anything I had to do when putting them in, and the man said, no, just put them in the holes and push towards the back of the machine. If it works I will let you know, fingers crossed! Thanks again
