    Re: hotpoint mistral plus 8596

Hi, thanks to all, my Hotpoint 8596 is working ok at the moment. This site proved invaluable.

Changed both the evaporator & freezer thermistors but i’m not convinced they were faulty.

Following may be useful to others:

Found condenser totally stuffed with dust, could be reason evap fan wasn’t starting, if evap not cooling down sufficiently. Turn off power, remove plinth grille (2 screws accessed by opening freezer door, then pull off) hoover clean.

Easy way to tell if compressor & condenser fan working is obviously listen for compressor (normal fridge type noise) if running, check fan by holding a sheet of thin paper in front of the right hand side of the plinth grille and it should be gently sucked onto the grille. Should be slight blow at lhs of grille.

Model 8596 has a test programme – power on whilst pressing the ‘set’ button, let go when power on. The control module will energise the following for 10sec in turn & the LCD dispaly will cycle:

    defrost heater
    gutter htr
    evap fan
fridge baffle motor (1 operation open or close depend on start pos’n)

Unit should go to normal running at end of test

Models 8496 & 8696 test is by switching on with ‘fast freeze’ pressed.

If test is run with freezer internal back panel off & fridge roof baffle housing lowered (power off during removal), u can check if fan runs & if baffle moves.
NB: fridge baffle housing is lowered by pulling off lamp diffuser & removing 2 screws inside lamp housing. Don’t pull down too far as wiring is attached inside. Fridge thermistor is at rear left of baffle housing.

Other useful stuff: can force evap fan to run by unplugging the evap thermistor.

Evap fan won’t normally run if evap thermistor is at less than 15kOhm,
    = -5degC.

    All 3 thermistors should be about 3kOhm at a warm room temp of 26degC, 7k at 8degC 9k at 0degC, 26k at -20degC.

Defrost heater Res – Evap heater 385ohm, gutter heater 2600ohm.

    Regards,

    Claude.

    Re: hotpoint mistral plus 8596

    Thanks,

I’m going to try replacing the evap thermistor, as I tried shorting it out and the evap fan ran ok, which it wasn’t before.

    Claude.
