ParticipantRe: Very Loud Knocking on spin: Bosch WFF2001
Sounds similar to a problem I’ve had recently. I thought it was the drum bearings (or was told this by an ‘expert’ who I called to look at the machine) but noticed it didn’t make any noise when washing – only when rinsing – and no noise when I turned the drum manually. It turned out to be the draining pump – the propeller had come loose insind and was rattling about when the machine was draining!

Just to post a final outcome update – the pump arrived, I fitted it and the machine is now in perfect working order again! Turned out the propeller fan inside the original pump had fallen off and was rattling around inside the case.
So a big thank you to all here for their help and advice that has saved me at least £250 had I gone for the first guys repair estimate (and I’d still have had the same problem after that!). Worrying that someone who carries a big advert in the yellow pages as an experienced engineer can get it so wrong.

Makes me think the guy I first called out to look at the machine (and who charged me £38 to tell me the drum and support strut needed replacing at a total cost of £250) must have forgotten his stetson and parked his horse around the corner somewhere…..

Thanks for all the help and advice. Drain pump on order so hopefully it will be a lot cheaper than I had feared to get washing again!

Hmmm… now I’m not sure it IS the bearings! I spoke to a firm I found using the links here and they said bearings normally come on gradually (this noise started suddenly) and by turning the drum manually you should still hear the noise (but when I do this nothing). So I tried running it again and noticed the noise isn’t there all the time – only when it’s on the drain cycle. So I’m now thinking it’s the draining pump – possible? If so is this easy to replace/fix myself?

Great thanks. Is there any way I could check if the shaft is broken myself or would I need an engineer to look at it?

Thanks for the feedback. Looking around it seems we are facing £400+ to replace it 🙁 Not sure if the parts are available if we wanted to go for a repair as we have phoned several local firms who won’t even look at it.
