Thanks for the quick reply – much appreciated.

When it’s in the fail mode it doesn’t restart cooling by itself, I have to switch it off then on again. Lights, panel display etc. still work – just no cooling. No errors show when I run the diagnostic routine from the panel.

My fridge/freezer (Samsung SR-S2028CVW) has the widely reported fault of failing to cool on both sides, temporarily fixed by swithching off and on. I removed the internal rear panels on both sides expecting to find a build up of ice but there is none. This suggests to me that the defrost heaters are working and that a sensor is faulty – do the experts agree? If so, what’s the most likely culprit?
