Re: BEKO DCU8230 not heating up

It’s been a while but from memory if the front and rear NTCs are fine and there is continuity on the thermostat then the only other thing that cuts heat off is the overflow switch. There was a wiring diagram in the service manual, the relays were pretty big as I remember. Mine sparked when I put it through the service test on the steps with the heater activated. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/91840 … ml?page=16

Re: BEKO DCU8230 not heating up

I’m not bad at soldering but I generally do low voltage stuff, not sure I would trust my skills with mains connected appliances… I know it’s pretty much the same thing but I’d rather spend not very much on a brand new one and have some trust in it than potentially bodge the old one and burn down my garage 🙂

The new dryer arrived today, the old one went to scrap. If I hadn’t have bought the heater I’d have probably taken a stab at the PCB but buying both in the hope that it would work again when a brand new one delivered next day is only £250 isn’t worth the risk.

Thanks for all your help. I think next time I’ll just put it on extra cover along with our washing machine and dishwasher and get someone qualified out…. I only went for it myself this time as I thought it would be an easy heater swap out. That’ll teach me 🙂

Re: BEKO DCU8230 not heating up

Well taking the main board out looked too fiddly to be worth the cost of a complete new unit, I did try one more thing though, I bought the old heater back in and went through the service test cycle, when it hit the steps where the heaters were supposed to be on it still didn’t heat up but at least one of the relays on the PCB were arcing and making a crackling sound. Pretty green light show!

It’s now outside waiting for the scrap man and a new one is being delivered tomorrow. I don’t like throwing things away but doing anything else doesn’t seem economically viable with these things! I just wish I’d tested the old heater properly before I assumed that was the original problem, ah well, live and learn 🙂

    Thanks again for your help.

Re: BEKO DCU8230 not heating up

The thermostat is definitely ok, I’ve tested it again and it’s got continuity and the button hasn’t popped up. I haven’t retested the heater NTC but I’m going to assume that’s still fine.

I pulled the sensor connector block from the PCB and it wouldn’t do anything without it (as expected), but when I plugged it back in the behaviour changed. Instead of not progressing past step 2 on the service test it does now progress all the way through the test stages. In steps 5 and 6 the heaters are supposed to be on and they’re not, I tried to read voltage on the 700w and 1600w wires and got none so I’m going to guess a PCB fault.

I’m not really willing to throw any more time or money into trying to fix this dryer as it was only a cheapy to begin with and I’ve already wasted money on the heater. Thanks for your help chaps but unless anyone has any other suggestions it’ll be new dryer time later today!

Re: BEKO DCU8230 not heating up

Thanks again for the replies guys.

Do you know which sensor would trigger the ‘clean filter’ light?

Before I pull the PCB (which will mean I probably break something) I’d like to double check everything else. I’ve checked the overflow switch as that was actually closed circuit but it appears to be correct, it triggers the ‘water tank full’ light if removed or pressed… is it just the door NTC that determines whether the filter needs cleaning? (excluding a knackered PCB of course)

    Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply. I pulled the door NTC and it measured 12Kohms which was reducing as I held it in my hand. I believe that’s just about spec for the part? Is that the only sensor that determines whether the lint filter needs changing?
