    This morning I took the fridge to pieces to see if the fans were the same so I could test it in the freezer. It looks like that one is dead as well. There was a lot of ice behind the evaporator panel. it looks a bit ropey behind the fridge side. Some mound and rust on the tray etc.

    Is it likely that both fans could have given up the ghost, not sure on the history of the thing as we were given it by a friend of the family but the date stamped on the fans is 2001 so they are fairly old. I don’t want to throw £150 at it and find the whole thing is on its last legs.

    Think I might have answered my own problem. I assumed the evaporator fan only ran when the heater was on but looking into it I think I am right in saying that it should be running whenever the compressor is running.

    The blades turn free so it’s not seized. How do I check if it’s the fan that’s faulty with a multimeter. I have one but only ever use it for checking continuity.
