Thanks for that, very useful! If the compressor wont last long why do the manufacturers say in the instruction book: ” If the room temperature is 7c or lower (example if the product is located in a garage or outbuilding) for the refrigerator to operate correctly the ‘Fast Freeze switch’ must be in the ON position”.
Also in saying this they are approving its use outside and therefore the warranty would cover the compressor if it failed.

I am surprised none of this is told to you when you buy one. Even looking on Manufacturers websites tells you nothing. We have always had a second Fridge freezer in our garages ready for the BBQ season with drinks and BBQ food and never had a problem in 20 years. We were recommended this model by the shop as it says on it you can install in rooms that are less than 16c as long as the fast freeze switch is used. I do notice it seems to be getting too cold (Ice forming inside fridge) which is why i asked if having it on a cycle by means of a timer would do any harm. Say 1 hour on and 1 hour off???

Thank you for your helpful reply. as I understand it in normal use the compressor will turn on and off many times during the day. If it is on the frost free setting (in order for it to work in the colder environment) how will the use of a timer to create the same on and off cycle create a Salmonella risk? Bearing in mind: A) the instruction book says it can be turned off 14 hours without risk and B) the fridge is in a cold environment as well.
