Thanks guys.
Sorry if I started a ruckus among you.
I’m really greatful for the info on the repair kit, as so far I’ve been told that the tacho magnet is not available as a spare and I’ll have to get a whole new motor at £99+VAT!!

Martin,
BINGO! As you predicted, the nylon thread on the tacho magnet has indeed been completely stripped. I TOLD my wife we wouldn’t have to get a whole new machine! (That’s the Scot in me)
I’ll certainly let you know if the machine fails to recover 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.
Once again, you guys, thanks for your help.
Cheers,
David.

Thanks Penguin45,
How do I check the security of the magnet? Is this beneath the coil, on the end of the drive shaft?
To check for armature earth leakage, do I check the reistance between each commutator segment and earth?
Thanks for your advice so far.
David.

Dave,
I checked the end of the motor; nothing seems loose or missing. I checked the resistance across the of the tacho magnet leads and on my multimeter at 2000 ohms, the reading was 492.
Any comments?
Thanks,
David.

Dave,
Thanks for your reply.
Now you mention it, it certainly could be spinning instead of tumbling as you suggest. Now that I’ve replaced the telescopic struts, what can I do about the drum speed? Is this a controller issue, perhaps?
David.
