    As suggested have taken out oven, removed top and back covers.

    Only visible damage seems to be signs of overheating ( cracked insulation and discolouring of the wire itself) on the last centimetre or so of 2 of the wires which connect to the function selector. The wires are:
    Blue connecting to the 3rd spade connector on the left side of the selector
    Black connected to the 2nd spade on the right side of the selecor switch

    The rest of these 2 wires are OK….no signs of damage to the wires along their length or to the incoming terminal connector where they trace back to.

    Does that give anyone out there a clue as to what’s up, or is it a call to repair man?

    Function selector itself seems OK

    That’s my plan, but I was hoping someone out there might recognise the collection of symptoms and enable me to narrow my search!
