i understand what you wrote but you see i am no expert when it comes to chest freezer operation so i just read the manual and acted accordingly. nowhere did it state that i should wait for 24h. the only advice was that for long term storage the thermostat should be set at least to 2 (-18C). so i thought, ok since its the first time i’ll set it to 2.5 and when my digital thermometer read -18C i moved in the goods, which where already frozen to -18C (in the old freezer) !!! doesnt this count ? also nowhere does it states to what tempreture each setting on thermostat corresponds…

hi Bryan and thanks for the answer
the first freezer (aeg) was about 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} full, the two baskets on top where full and the other products on the bottom. the ice started forming exaclty around the lock near the cover-door. after the technician got involved it got much worse and expanded to the walls all around, half height from the top.
i kept the liebherr and turned it on today morning living the thermostat at 2.5 which shlould be around -20C . i left it for three hours and then moved the frozen stuff from the first freezer to the liebherr. i left a digital thermometer inside to monitor the tempreture. the tempreture is ranking from 19 to 21 but the red light which indicates a high tempreture hasn’t stop blibking ever since i turned it on !!! its been almost 12 hours since i turned it on and it still blinks and the tempreture is falling even lower !! i think i got a second faulty unit…

    thanks for the answer Don
well to be honest with you i dont know about products in South Africa either 🙂 i dont reside there but in europe.
i was expecting some technical info about the insulation used in both cases in order to have a clear understanding of the specifications. you see there are no industrial standards, as far as i am aware of, in measuring Storage time during malfunctions. so aeg people could take measurements at shahara while liebherr people could take them in the alps, hidden inside a cave, at night , during winter 🙂 .
