Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I live in the Hebrides but not near Stornaway, I’m about 12-14 hours’ journey one way, from it.
I do so agree – buying on-line is a massive P.i.T.A. Not many people deliver here either so I’m doing this with one hand tied behind my back. I think the best I can manage is to narrow my choices down to a shortlist then wait until I’m going to the mainland for a cattle sale or something & stay an extra night to go “cookering”. There are no white goods showrooms in Oban anymore since Hydroelectric shut, so it’s down to Fort William, Perth or Glasgow.
The hobs on the old cooker are working but the oven isn’t. I’m managing with a small combination microwave/oven atm but Christmas & new year are going to be a challenge!
Anyway, thanks for your input. 🙂FarmKitchen

😯 😯
I’m tearing my hair out! I’ve been looking at cookers on Which? and Good Housekeeping Institute but then when I look them up on places that sell them, there are none with exactly the same model number. Even the different shops have different numbers to each other and they are different again to the manufacturers’ own sites.
Anyone would think they were deliberately trying to bamboozle us!! :angry4:FarmKitchen

Thanks for the reply. Were the ones you had experience of solid & reliable?
(Sorry, I’m full of questions that a trip to a showroom to twiddle buttons would probably solve but there’s no shop within a day’s round trip from me, so I’m relying on other people!)FarmKitchen

I heard that Smeg ovens have poor thermostat control. Does anyone know if that’s true? Are they still made in Italy?

Just had a quick look at the Lincat site. They’d be in budget & look hard-working. (& made in UK?) What are the company like? Do you know if there’d be good after sales service?
Sorry, full of questions! ❓ :eeek:FarmKitchen

So are the AEG still quite well made then? I heard the company had been taken over & they’d gone down hill. That’s why I started looking again from scratch, to see if other makes were more robust now. I’ve been very happy with the old one.

There’s a cooker point.
I’ve had an AEG freestanding cooker for about 25 years but it’s wearing out now. -
