ParticipantRe: Replacement tumble drier?
Thanks for the help folks. After mulling over the replacement drier it was a toss up between the White Knight 7kg drier in various model numbers or the Indesit IDV75. The drier we had before the Hotpoint condenser was a simple Indesit and we only got the Hotpoint because it was offered in lieu of the fire scare recall. So, what made us decide in the end for another Indesit is that if you register it on line you presently get a ten year parts warranty. So, that’s what we have ordered. Buying the Hotpoint condenser drier was a big mistake. Good advice here to avoid them.
Thanks again.

Amazing, thanks Dave. Funnily enough, I was mulling over the idea that they make a gas fired drier and seeing as there is a gas point within about 75cm of where the drier goes, that would be a way to reduce my energy costs without the complications of a heat pump drier!
Thanks again.

Thanks very much. Having now read around this topic, I am pretty much of the opinion it’s best to avoid either condensing or heat pump driers for now. The Hotpoint condenser we have is complete rubbish. Much worse than the vented Indesit it replaced. More heat enters the room from the Hotpoint than is used in the drier to dry the contents, it seems.
Thinking about it, the very first/cheapest/simplest tumble drier I bought was a vented Philips device with a simple warm/hot switch and a mechanical timer knob. I had it over ten years with no problems.
So, my question now is – What is the best/most reliable vented drier out there, preferably one with simple controls rather than a complicated electronic control panel? I already have an outside vent installed so it’s no problem to buy another vented one.
Thanks.

ParticipantRe: Best range style cookers to buy in UK?
Thanks Don. We are going to take your advice and look at Rangemaster and Falcon. I think there is a showroom in Chester we can visit.
Cheers.

Thanks Don, I had guessed that about the Smeg stuff. The Falcon stuff looks decent and I gather are Rangemaster cookers. I know nothing of Leisure, Britannia and Viking though. I guess they are part of a big name too?
Cheers.

ParticipantRe: Neff gas hob, igniter keeps sparking on one burner?
don wrote:Trouble is by searching by a different Enr number the ignition pack may be different to what you have.
You will need to have the correct Enr in order to get the correct one. I have just done a quick search on one of our trade sites and there are over 80 different Neff ignition units!!
Don
Yes, I know! Given that the igniter itself is working and that the other three burners behave themselves I am of the opinion it is likely the thermocouple on the rear left burner that is broken. However, despite it being a simple fix with the hob removed, that needs a gas engineer. So it is likely to go unfixed at the present time. Thanks for taking the time and interest to post your advice. It is very much appreciated.fred bloggs

Yes, that’s what I thought too.
From the exploded diagram it seems the front panel trim comes off (double sided tape perhaps?) and then it exposes two screws that I can remove to drop off the front panel. That would save me grovelling on my back lying on the worktop to access it! Am I right in my assumption? Cheers.

Thank you, I just posted that link because it was good picture. Indeed, thank you, Neff are cheaper. I’ll buy it from there. Just to be clear what would I test with a multimeter? One of rocker switches doesn’t function but the others do. So the motor must be OK? Thanks.fred bloggs

Sounds like the spark generator or lead or even both may be at fault.
Sadly though we are unable to advise on Gas DIY repairs link here explains as to the reasons why.
Like before if you post up the Enr and FD number we may be able to point you in the right direction.
Don
Unfortunately, the numbers are not visible on the hob, they are blocked by the hob sitting in the worktop. However, on the Neff website it seems the 99.9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} similar hob is still made, the N30 580mm stainless steel hob looks pretty much identical.fred bloggs
ParticipantRe: Neff cooker hood only two fan speeds working?
It seems this is the switch, a bank of four rocker switches, this seems correct. It appears to be accessed from the rear of the front panel. Presumably by dropping the filter panels out? If I can unclip the existing switch bank successfully and swap the wires one by one, I think I can do this. Am I on the right track? Thanks.

OK thanks Don. I’ll take a look. I’d not touch anything gas myself. But this seems entirely electric and may be DIYable. Thank you again.

FWIW, I decided to go for a Liebherr CN3033. If I am going to have a bomb in the kitchen, I figure I might as well get a well made one! Thanks all.
