ParticipantRe: Miele – not as good as everyone says.
Thanks iadom, that’s cheered me up no end 😯
We did at least do some research before we went for the AEG so it wasn’t a blind decision – it did do relatively well in the latest Which? test of washer/dryers. We’ve always found ourselves going for the washer/dryer combination. It’s a space thing. We’d buy ‘separates’ if the room were available.
The Miele would definitely have been the buy of choice but for price. Time will tell if our choice was the right one of course.
Anyway, enough said. I think I’ve probably gone off topic and I don’t want to ‘hijack’ someone else’s thread 😳

ParticipantRe: AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830 – clothes coming out hard
Thanks for the reply Penguin45. We haven’t yet used the 1600 spin but my wife tells me she usually puts the washing back in after the initial wash/spin programme for a second spin (usually 1200 I think) to dry it more before it goes back for a tumble dry.
So, given your comments about compressing the fabric fibres, she says she will try abandoning that second separate spin for a while and see what transpires.

My view about brand loyalty is that it isn’t so much whether you have a problem with a product it’s the way the problem itself gets addressed.
In this latter ‘North of the Border’ case, I must admit that I wouldn’t have let anyone have a go at fixing what is a brand new machine – I would have argued that it wasn’t fit for purpose and demanded either a replacement or refund from the shop it was purchased from. But that’s a personal opinion of course and certainly not meant to be a criticism. Mind you, I don’t know whether Scottish consumer law is necessarily the same as for England and Wales. The trouble with buying things from the big chains like Dixons and Comet (which I admit to doing too) is that you rarely get the personal touch and get treated to a lowest common denominator conveyor belt for problems and service.
My experience with getting service through warranty or extended guarantee over the years with a number of washer dryers of various makes (but not Miele) has been that all roads lead to Domestic and General – even when you think you are calling the manufacturer. And D&G are dire. They seem to be a monopoly (an area that needs investigating by the Office of Fair Trading in my view) and the ‘service’ they offer is simply not fit for purpose. When we have problems out of warranty in future (we’ve recently bought an AEG) I intend finding and using an independent repairer.
Anyway, sorry for the ramble and I hope these Miele problems get resolved. We couldn’t run to a Miele – twice the price of the AEG and I though the AEG was expensive!
