Check with David Quinn (PM dquinn) for a detergent session in your home area and you will proably be able to answer a lot more detergent related queries in the future. Persil v Ariel tablets??? Ariel doesn’t need a net and can be put in the drum before the wash load.

Check with your local FE college http://www.midkent.ac.uk/study/electrical.htm and when you find out the cost (you will be lucky to get any financial help) you may decide to have the rewire done by a contractor.

    Re: Compensation Issue

Simply tell your customer that he will have to give you mutually agreeable access within normal business hours for you to view the said damage. Also request that he submitts a written claim for you at the time of that visit to be able to pass on to your insurers, inline with your company policy.

You will probably find that he will simply fade away but you will have honoured your committment to care for your customer and your own reputation.

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

In my experience whilst delivering whitegoods training and assessing the C&G standards since 1994, the whole portfolio can be encompassed within about 10 jobs. The assessor should liase very closely with and guide the candidate, suggesting evidence requirements and using specific jobs to record the achievement, i.e ensure that the candidate is asked to complete relevant work that can be used towards evidence.

The time frame of 3 months is quite generous as most candidates will cover 35/40 completed jobs per week or 420/480 in 3 months. Quite sufficient for NVQ needs.

I have only briefly seen an EAL portfolio layout, as used by CREATE, but it seems to be in a more user friendly format and should be a little easier for the candidate to translate from NVQ speak into plain English.

There are several web based recording systems available to ease the paperwork burden, but these will probably only be explored when the numbers warrant.

I am looking forward to participating in the pilot scheme and I am sure that we will end up with a viable solution to enable ALL to participate.

Re: NVQ for the Domestic Appliance industry.

Looks like this thread, like a lot of others has gone off the point in question. All that we at UKW are trying to do is help those individuals who would like to gain a trade relevant qualification and may be pre-empt any imposed legislation by running a pilot in conjunction with CREATE. We would like to hear from those of you who are really interested not those who just want to knock our efforts.

The Standards, or what you have to do, for the current NVQ can be found in the scheme handbook, download from this C&G link in pdf format. This is also available from EAL (Emta awards Ltd)

    Good Luck it’s a heavy!

Re: Any NVQ2 Training in London

Not yet but we at UKW are working on it. Keep an eye on the site over the next few months. You may have to contribute towards any cost involved but this is entirley dependant on your age, current qualifications and employment status.

We will be bringing the detergent road show to the London area in April & May, watch out for you nearest venue and come along to have a chat.

Re: training w/c Tuesday Feb 21st

During March we will be covering Yorkshire and the East Midlands, approx Harrogate down to Derby area. East Anglia will probably be in the next batch, Kilmarnock will be able to fill in more details. By the way Mark I happened upon one G. Orr in Preston when I called in to see Chris, no change I’m afraid. just come along to the Leeds (posibility of meeting a penguin!!!!) venue and let him know what he is missing!

The first two days in Manchester and Liverpool have been well received, so much so that I am rapidly running out of stock for this week!!!

Tommy Cooper (no relation?) would have been proud of the performance. Managed to crumble a Persil tablet without trying, spilled the cherryade and the Active burst didn’t work on the plate!!!!

You will have to come along to see what I’m talking about.

Contact David Quinn for sessions in your area.

    Re: Scottish Training Sessions

Just a couple of lines to thank the 60 Independent Service Engineers who attended the sessions in Glasgow, Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee and North Queensferry, especially Alec White from the Isle of Lewis (Inverness) and Finlay MacNab from the Isle of Skye (Nth.Queensferry) for their attendance from such remote locations. The sessions were very interactive and we believe that everyone enjoyed them and left with some very informative information which will enable them to give their customers a more informed opinion and the means to increase their business oportunities if they so decide. They also enjoyed the freebies!!

    Thanks a lot lads
