    Re: Portable Appliance Testing

Is there a need for UKWhitegoods to facilitate a PAT test course with on-line assessment leading to a recognised qualification?

Do not reply on this tread but:

Please send your thoughts to gdownes@ukwhitegoods.co.uk

    Re: Poor Wash Results

The customer needs to use two from three products for optium results.

Every thing in the previous posts is correct , but I think Kevin is just a little mixed up there is so much to remember with this detergent stuff!!!

Standard Detergent – bleach and bio (enzymes) for whites and light colours.

Colour Detergent (or any Liquid Detergent) -bio (enzymes) but NO bleach for darker colours.

Non Bio (NO enzymes) with Bleach for whites and anyone with skin irritation issues.

Remember you only get what you pay for so go for a propriatory brand such as Ariel.

The best bet is to try and attend a UKW Detergent Training Session when in your area.

Check the Training forum or e-mail dquinn@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for the latest information on venues

To all those who have expressed interest and to those yet to do so, Thanks.

Please note that’s all it is at the moment, an interest.

We do not yet have anything in place, there are no sessions planned, all we want is an idea of how many bodies will be involved with the initial group.

When you send in your e-mail please do not expect an immediate reply, I will keep all your details and contact everyone on an individual basis as soon as I have more information, and please use the e-mail address NOT this thread.

Your regional location would also be appreciated.

    Cheers

Re: Hotpoint slimline DW doesn’t heat

On the 7801 the prefill tank on the rear was ommited, this feature enabled condenser drying, but on this one they reverted to the normal heat/ time lapse drying cycle. The water in chambers that remain full is used for filling up the salt and then through the resin on regeneration. depending on the setting of the regen switch (top left front) 1,2, or all 3 empty. Regeneration valve opens just before the drying cycle at he end of the rinse period. That’s probably all we can help without seeing the machine, by the way you are correct in that it’s laid on its back to drop the base.

Penguin45 is of course talking about the water softener resin chamber, which may have solidified alright, the time taken depends on the water hardness. Your machine may have passed the point of no return but just incase, the magnesium and calcium salts which cause this can be easily removed by adding dishwasher salt to the machine. Regularly in hard water areas and less frequently in softer. Even in very soft areas the chamber needs a flush through maybe every six months to get rid of accumulated hardness. How hard is my water? check your kettle element or look on the side of a packet of Ariel for a rough guide to the UK.

Please remember to switch off and remove the plug before attempting anything on the machine.

The pressure switch contact notation is 1-2 NC 1-3 NO so 2 and 3 should not come in to the equation.
The water inlet is via a metering tank and your poor fill is probably due to a blockage somewhere in this tank or associated hoses.
The heater does have a protection switch which does not allow heat if there is insufficient water in the machine.

Temperatures in washer dryers are many and varied. The only way to check if there is a difference in the various settings is by checking the current taken by the machine at each stage of the cycle. The highest reading would be full heat with motor running, next low heat and finally no heat when you should only have the motor current. This is really a job for an engineer but if you have an old disc type electricity meter you may see a difference in the disc speed for each setting, progressivley getting slower. If you can’t tell then call out Hotpoint as you seem to have a legitimate problem, argue with the engineer and he will probably give in. Anything for an easy life! and the amount of calls he is made to get through in a day he will probably be glad to get away!!!

    UGHH!

You’ve taken off the start relay and current/temperature overload. These parts are unique to your compressor make and model. If I were you I would ring the local authority and have it lifted especially as you now have a replacement.

Re: Creda 1000 EcoWash model 17072E

    Hi

The scraping noise is coming from the space between the inner drum and outer container you’ve left something in a pocket or the machine has ‘eaten’ a bra wire. The drum could also have dropped because of bearing failure causing it to catch the heating element. The hole in the door seal is probably not rleted to the noise problem unless the front steadying spring has snapped and the whole machine is out of alignment. There is no easy solution as the machine requires a complete strip down. Go to Repairs@ page to find your local engineer.

If you do open up the box remember to SWITCH OFF and REMOVE THE PLUG.

If this is an old 956? range machine there are several causes especially if the fault is intermittent, and in truth all are very difficult to diagnose without sight of the machine. Fault codes shown in the display window sometimes give an indication of the area of the problem. Your best bet is to visit the Repairs@ page and find your local engineer.

    Re: leaving appliances safe?

If you have to leave a machine unrepaired then you can’t do much more than what has been suggested to make it safe.
When the repair is completed you are also under an obligation to leave it electrically safe to use, I suggest you click on the link and check on the safety test recommendations.
