Penguin45 – Thanks for your reply, it got me thinking that I hadn’t tested wether the antiflood switch actually stopped the water, I only tested it on the meter.
I switched on the machine again and it flashed the lights as before. When I closed the door water started to enter as before, so I depressed the antiflood switch and the drain pump kicked in and pumped until the water was gone.
The error lights have gone now and the program switch can now change programs, so it seems back to normal. Perhaps this has completed a cycle properly and cleared the error, fingers crossed.
I will try to do a proper wash soon and let you know how I get on.
