Re: Bosch KGN33V00GB cool air distribution question

    Thanks!

Defrosted for 24 hrs and drained around at least 1.5 litres of water.
    It is working again.

Could there be a problem which causes this? I have used fast freeze sometimes.

Are there any manufacturer modifications which should be done as with other models?

    Thanks Jim,
It is a silly design, I thought it may need a special tweek to remove the front. Oh well.

    Thanks,
I will try the defrost. I can see the front of the condensor from within the freezer; could the back still be frozen?

Re: Bosch KGN33V00GB cool air distribution question

I need some more help and advice please.
We now have the freezer set to max and the fridge set to 5 (max).
The fridge rareley is going below 10 degrees unless left, mostly empty overnight.
It is modestly packed, the vent is clear.
Any clues before another call to Bosch?
The fan is blowing but not much

What I wrote wasn’t to dismiss what you are saying, merely what happened to us.

    Re: BOSCH KGN34VOO MANUFACTURING PROBLEM

We have the 33V00, it appears to be the same but smaller.
Regarding the frozen food problem; we had that and the rest of the fridge was not so cold.
The engineer said it was a bit odd, in that what appears to be a multi vented duct was in fact only vented at the top. The temp of the fridge is governed by a selector control at the back, this is a thermostatic duct flap, regulating air flow. It needs to be set to max.
This allows air flow, stops the salad bin freezing and keeps the temp even.
It looks like there is sensor at the back of the fridge. I cannot work out if this is just a blank as there is no link between it and the mechanical duct.
Fortunately, ours is not so noisy, less than a Hotpoint I had though, that really did pump air around it.

Cossie wrote:Hi. As you have said the KGN series has a channel up the rear letting the cold air into the fridge section. This is controlled by a mechanical “Flap valve” mounted at the top.
Although these units tend to be inherently on the cold side It is very important that no air is escaping around the rear channel before the flap.

The rear panel can easily be removed by taking out three screws (under covers). The channel should be sealed with insulation foam strips down each side and around the square ait inlet at the bottom.

This will prevent any uncontrolled cooling in the fridge.

    Thanks Cossie,
the engineer explained how this flap worked.

It seemed odd that an electronic sensor would say “make the fridge cooler” but a mechanical flap actually could block it. I really don’t understand how you can truly set the fridge temp.

The engineer advised to leave set to max, we have and it’s been fine.
We had a Hotpoint Mistral which, whether our fault or it’s, three times misbehaved. When you set a fridge temp, it did it and quickly.

I am unsure as to whether to buy another frost free. The next level Bosch, as I remeber isn’t frost free.

The rear panel is only vented at the top. In my experience it wasn’t sealed and two of the screws did’t reach the backplate.

Quite dissapointed in Bosch but don’t know who to trust and don’t expect to buy fridges on a whim

The fridge is cooling down better.
It aveages 5C on top and 2 in the boxes.
I am suprised there is no notice of the venting in the booklet.

Re: Bosch KGN33V00GB cool air distribution question

Just had the engineer round. He pointed out that the housing running down the centre, from top to bottom only has one outlet, at the top, even though it looks multi vented. Anything in front of this will limit air flow. Glass shelves won’t help.

The temp selector knob only controls a duct flap, allowing or blocking the air flow up it from the freezer. There is no fan in the fridge section, only a fanned outlet from the freezer section.

He did find that the housing screws didn’t reach the full length, possibly dissipating the airflow to the lower area of the fridge.

The setting has been set at max=5.

The airflow does feel stronger, possibly as we have cleared the outltet of jars etc or because the flap is allowing air through.

I will report back on any changes.

Re: Bosch KGN33V00GB cool air distribution question

Ressurecting this thread, not sure it is behaving as it should.
On average the top shelf measures 11-12 C and on occasion, food in the bottom freezes.
Does anyone know how much flow the fan should output?
I am prepared to call Bosch but don’t fancy the £60 bill for a no fault found.
Would the fridge still make a noise if the fan is stuck?

Re: Bosch KGN33V00GB cool air distribution question

Thanks for the replies. I have mentioned I can hear the fan when I press the switch and I can feel cool air and it doesn’t sound laboured but the flow doesn’t seem much.
What sort of air flow should I expect? Should it make a piece of tissue paper wave in the breeze or be a stronger force?
    regards.

Thanks for the quick response BSH-MAN, I will therfore cancel the visit.
Could you please shed some light as to why there is such a vairance when the fridge is fanned?

Re: Quick one about a Mistral

Aris, I hope the repair works for you. The Bosch we bought is model KGN33V00, a basic frostfee, smaller than the Mistral but so much more quieter. It is located close to the kitchen door, which is beside a sofa in the lounge, so a good result on that at least.

Re: Quick one about a Mistral

This is why we decided to jump ship. I know there are no guarantees of success from one brand to another but two full freezers spoilt are enough.
This new Bosch is so much more quiet, I know there are lots to read about the Mistral but you never know when it will be your turn, God forbid a total thaw/refreze/E-coli scenario!
