OK – thanks iadom – it’s useful to know if it’s basically come to the end of it’s life.

It is wearing out in other ways too – and has done a good many years service. So about time to say goodbye rather than messsing about too long with it.

Any particular recommendations for replacement? Would like condensor, silver/graphite and largish capacity at least 6kg…

    Cheers

Re: Whirlpool side by side, capacitors changed, not working

    New board… Easy! – without a doubt – but Β£170 😯

You may have fried the polarity sensitive capacitor – maybe a new one of those might do the trick. I’m not an expert with these – just a mechanical engineer who doesn’t like having to buy an overpriced circuit board when a few pence worth of capacitors are the culprit! πŸ˜†

If you follow the ebay link and find brodders for sale stuff – you can contact him via the ebay messaging system (if you didn’t get your kit from him in the first place πŸ˜‰ ) I’m sure he will be more than happy to advise you.

I just got a front board only kit from him – I am very impressed – everything you need and excellent instructions…

    All the best

Good to see this thread still helping people πŸ˜†

Another tip for clicking and flashing display is to minimise the amount of LEDs lit up – minimal seems to be -21 ΒΊC Freezer and 4 ΒΊC Fridge… works for me… so far anyway

Still haven’t got round to doing my front board yet and lost one of my replacement capacitors now :hmm: – need to get round to it before something serious happens LOL :innocent:

For broddersbaldricks full repair kit search ebay for ‘Whirlpool Fridge Freezer Repair kit’ or seller broddersbaldrick

    Good luck…

Re: Whirlpool side by side, capacitors changed, not working

Hi – there should be markings on the board and on the capacitor!

Brodders does the kits still on ebay – there are some pictures of the boards on his listing which may help…

    Currently… http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Whirlpool-Fridge- … 4cf1c5870d

Or if listing finished search for… Whirlpool Fridge Freezer Repair kit (side by side) or seller broddersbaldrick

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

I think this has gone WAAAYYYY off topic… Health and Safety issues – interesting though they are πŸ˜‰ are now ceasing to add anything further to this discussion.

I asked Brodders the original question – which did not involve ‘live testing’ at all…

Specifically what I asked about was the 2 plastic connectors in this picture…

Whether it was OK to disconnect them to be able to remove the panel whilst leaving the freezer running.
When you disconnect the connector blocks the female parts are the ones that are still connected to the machine. This can then hopefully be left running keeping the food cool whilst making the mod to the front PCB.

I always check everthing exposed that might get touched with a mains circuit tester screwdriver, maybe this isn’t enough…

If it’s best practice to disconnect the freezer, remove the circuit board, reconnect the freezer until re-attaching the modded circuit board that’s fine too – I do tend to take advice from people who seem to know what they are talking about πŸ˜†

But really it was about whether the machine would run OK with the front board disconnected πŸ˜†

    Wow! 😯

I ordered the 2 off 190-8450 capacitors from RS for the front panel as advised – yesterday afternoon…. They just turned up today less than 24 hrs later in a yellow and red RS van about 30 minutes ago 😯

    Awesome service RS! Thanks

And thanks to Brodders of course πŸ˜‰

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Brodders – you seem to have done some fantastic work here πŸ˜€ Thanks!

Just a re-cap on the earlier part of the thread I have re-uploaded my pics of the Rear control boards and thought I would post again here – it’s a HUGE thread to trawl through LOL πŸ˜† – but I’m here again since I’m sure my front control board is about to expire now… πŸ˜† – another 3 1/2 years on πŸ˜‰

Old rear board from S25BRSS31-A/G – expired in Mar ’06 – pic includes attempt at salvaging with a single replacement capacitor :rolls:

New rear board from Whirlpool phone helpline – cost Β£88 from Italy

Full conversion kit is now available from uk whitegoods – in case you haven’t read that bit! πŸ˜‰

Some people are unsure as to how to remove the front fascia on these machines – on mine when you lift the drip tray 2 screws can be seen… remove and pull the cover out and the bottom and lift upward to release where it clips downward into 2 slots in the top corners

I have now ordered the replacement capacitors as recommended by brodders – and assume that the board is on the back of this fascia panel. Can it be disconnected whilst the machine is running? – There are only 2 multi connectors running to the control board. – Or should the machine be turned off and disconnected fronm the mains?

Pics in case anyone is interested…
Fascia pulled away from freezer door

Back of fascia panel – showing control board cover I assume and 2 pieces of wiring loom connected to control board.

    Thanks

Re: S25B-RSS31 – how to remove door with water pipe?

Thanks – that was spot on πŸ˜€

A bit tricky to get the thing apart in that position LOL πŸ˜†

I will post some pics later incase anyone else has the same problem.

I took the opportunity to remove a few ‘skip fulls’ of dust and fluff out of the thing whilst i had the kick panel off 😳 πŸ˜†

    Thanks guys! 8)

jay Mine is also a S25BR(SS31) – It’s not difficult to get the board out – you could check yours to see if it is the later board as in my first pic… Cost was Β£88 direct through Whirlpool spares telephone line…

If you’re unsure about DIY I can post some pics to let you see the steps…

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

OK – good news… Board has arrived today πŸ˜†

The guy in Maplins reckoned it must have been an old fridge to use the round cross-section capacitors… The new board seems to have ‘modern’ capacitors… Picks posted to show difference –

    New one…

    Old one…

Anyway – fired her up – no clicking and seems to be cooling OK!

Thanks for your help everyone – I hope the cheapo fix works for some of you πŸ˜†

    Cheers

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

DARN IT – fridge is now not cooling at all – So I was pushed intoi trying the capacitor change πŸ™„

    No joy I’m afraid…

I phoned Whirlpool Parts and they quoted Β£87.88 for a rear board inc VAT + Del… So not too bad – BUT 5 to 7 days delivery time – aaaggghhhh 😯

Front board apparently includes all front facia & stuff & cost Β£144.28 (shouldn’t be needed on mine according to DP πŸ˜‰ )

Oh well fridgeless for a week… At least we’ve still got the old fridge so it’s just the freezer we’ll realy be missing πŸ™

    Thanks for advice anyway guys…

OK got a capacitor from Maplins…

Only one they had in which seemed to be suitable was quite a bit bigger – but seems to be plenty of room in the box πŸ˜‰

    Markings are…

    LCR 0306
    MKP/SW/WF
    220NF 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}
    500V AC

    About 28mm long & Ø 16mm

    Β£1.99 πŸ˜†

Please somebody post if I’m about to send my fridge up in smoke πŸ˜†

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

I took my board out yesterday – fiddled about with it and replaced… No clicking… for an hour or so then it started again – a bit quieter now – but also still clicks double time with ice maker on…

This is my board, looks identical to the older one I posted earlier…

Hope it works – haven’t used this host before πŸ˜†

    Rear of board…

    Cheers

    Mick
